Default Steering Wheel Audio Controls Possible?

I saw a new HHR today with audio controls on the steering wheel. I also noticed that it has the same wheel as the vette. Would it be possible to add the controls from the HHR or another vehicle to the vette and get them to work? Is the wiring already there in preperation for adding them? I wonder why chevy did not add them if they were available with this wheel. I feel like it is the only thing missing on the inside of the car.

I would like to see this as well. On a car this great and this price it should have been a no brainer to have steering wheel controls. Safer in that you do not have to remove your hands from the wheel. but on the other hand maybe they did not add them so you would pay attention and drive! But i would still like them

maybe, maybe not. You could definitely do it with an aftermarket head unit.

I bought the steering wheel controls for my 350z from a dealership in England when I was travelling there as an airline pilot. They weren't offered in the US.

Then I got a PAC SWI-X interface and used it for my aftermarket unit. The wiring was from the switch area was in the car already though, just had to jumper several wires to make it work. it may or may not be with ours. PAC is the name of the company that makes this stuff. GM might even have an input on the factory radio for it, you never know.

I hope so because the HHR steering wheel is only like $100. $65 if you dont get the leather one. Since I only need the controls I could get the cheaper one...

While at home I have an '06, C6, I'm on vacation this week and have a Pontiac G6 rental car. It has the same '06 Corvette steering wheel, but with the radio controls on the wheel. I think that the Corvette doesn't have them because Dave Hill didn't think that it was appropriate for a sports car, but I'm not sure.

I have the steering wheel controls on my 'other' car and forget they're there. I don't miss them at all...just reach over and turn the *****...no big deal.

No, No, No. Keep the high performance sports car as it is. Don't clutter up a perfectly clean interior. Or if so, make it an option. The "redundent" option like GM has on other vehicles. My C6 has only 3 *****. 2 temp controls and 1 volume control. I for one hope that GM continues to keep the Corvette utilitarian and "clean" like a performance car should be. IMHO

Just to add another wheel to the list. The new Solstice has the same 3 spoke wheel with the radio controls also.

I love the way they say adding audio controls to the wheel would be “distracting”, yet GM thinks it’s just fine to put 100 different functions on the TURN SIGNAL stalk.
And then they put microscopic ***** and buttons on the NAV equipped faceplate including the voice recognition button.
Irony at its best.

I have a friend who is a GM tech so I am gonna go see if I can look through some technical manuals and see if it is even possible. I have a feelinh though that I might need some sort of PAC interface to send signals on the CAN2 bus so the radio can interpret the signals. PAC might have to do a special interface to get it to work. I wonder how many C6 people would be intrested in adding the controls..

My Suburban has them and I literally never use them. Just as easy to reach out my hand and change whatever needs changing. Just adds unnecessary complexity in my book...

I suspect the corvette engineers will add the SWC next year since so many GM cars already have them. Just my guess

I'll bet they do. Just hope they can be retrofitted. It's stupid to have to remove your hands from the wheel to change stations, etc.

Default You know

thats something I never figured out! The 4th Gen Camaro and Firebird all came with radio controls in the steering wheel. Seek, Vol,Am/Fm,CD,Mute,Presets. I could never understand why the Vette never had and still dosen't.

I'd really like to see some of the controls unloaded from the turn signal stalk. Lots of other cars implement cruise control as buttons on the steering wheel, had them on my 350Z, have them on my Dodge pickup, and that works just dandy. Lights on and off belongs on the left dash. Etc. The turn signal stalk just needs turn signals and high/low beam control. I'm content for the radio controls to remain on the radio.

I would love to see it as standard equiptment on the 07s, As I have a deposit on the 07 Z06, My 03 GMC has them and i have got really used to using them to change the radio stations.
