Default Closing the Hood

The C6 manual says to close the hood firmly. I recall seeing a post that recommended dropping the hood from about 12 inches as pressing it down could cause cracks. It seems to me that the impact loads from dropping it puts way more stress on the hood than pressing down directly above the two latching points. I can see how pressing down in an area not directly above the latches would not be good.

Comments please.

Bring it down below 5 inches back up to 12 then drop. Works everytime.

I've been dropping it. Just want to make sure I'm doing right. I've had aluminum hoods but never composite/reinforced plastic ones.

I guess I'm the only one who WILL NOT DROP THE HOOD! Sorry but I refuse to do that. I just lower the hood all the way down and place a paper towel or small washcloth or handtowel on the hood directly above the latches and apply just enough downward force to gently lock the hood. I think one time my hood on my 74 may have popped open on one side once-I think??? I know dropping the hood probably won't damage it but I just can't stand the sound it makes or watch it go down. My method works fine for me and never hand any hood paint problems. I've owned 11 vettes since 1971-just my 2 cents...

Well I'm another dropper. Usually about 8-10 inches. First couple of times that I did drop the hood I was taken back somewhat with the sound but now no big deal.

I just give mine a hard push from the full upright position. The paint is only has a few cracks, and the dealer has only had to replace one of the latches.

Okay, okay! I'm just joking! I drop it from about 10 inches.

Same way that I do it. Hate dropping it. No probs with my C6 and never had a prob with my 5 or 4.

I don't open and close it that much that "dropping" it would cause a problem. I know on the mid years I've owned, I always set it down and then pressed/pushe each side.

Old school says don't do it, but with the new ones, it's not a problem.
