Default Michelin PS2s

In case anyone's interested, Michelin is finally making the PS2 rears for the C6 (285/35-19). A Michelin rep I spoke to today said they just began getting them out within the last couple of weeks. I remember some threads a while back where members were commenting that Michelin was not making them yet. Just thought I'd pass it on.

Call AAA, the spouse, or plug the tire, same as a motorcycle etc.

If you are not willing to take the risk for the better tracktion just keep the old tires, no biggie.

Here's something for you to think about. I made this comment a few months ago and since then have talked to a C5 owner who has had this problem.

OK, so you put non run flats on your car. I won't even get into the fact that you don't have some increased protection against a flat tire.

My main point is that with a run flat tire, it is less likely that IF you do have a flat, that the tire will go down to the rim. The C5 owner I mentioned had a blow out on the highway and the non run flat tire started coming apart in chunks. Some of the tire severely damaged the front fender well and fender. His aftermarket wheel was also chewed up as a result of the failed tire. It cost $1400 to repair the damage and now his paint doesn't match. He had to spend extra cash to replace the wheel also.

Have you seen the Car&Driver tire test from this month's issue?

The PS2 finished 4th overall. 1st was the Goodyear F1-GSD3

I've been run-flat-free for 4 years now on my C5 - and pretty happy I went that way.

Hey thanks a bunch for the link. I look forward to taking some time to read it completely. This issue of Run Flats or No Run Flats falls into that area where: If you don't have a problem like yourself, then you feel good about your decision. In the case of guy I wrote about with his C5, he feels that he made the wrong decision and should never have removed the run flat tires. There really isn't a right answer, it's a roll of the dice and you take your chances.

Let me go on record as saying that I don't relish the thought of having to spend $1400 -1600.00 for new run flat tires but at the same time I don't want to have to deal with the possible consequences the way the C5 guy had to.

I feel more comfortable with the inner casing keeping the roadway away from dmaging the wheel and whatever else - their cost is a consideration

Discount Tire here in San Antonio for all four tires in stock sizes......

$1,376 total for Goodyear Supercar EMTs mounted, balanced, tax, etc.

$1,347 total for the Michelin PS2s mounted, balanced, tax, etc.

I read the Car and Driver test too but that test took alot of wet weather driving into account which I will do little or none of. It was also done in a different car with different sizes. I like what I see as far as other comments/reviews go with the Michelins. See the Tire Rack reviews and you'll see what I mean.

Decisions decisions.....
