Default 2006 Z51 Just In With Two Dissatisfiers

Hi all,

Went to the dealer today cuz my new Black 2006 Z51 is in Took the wife so she could test drive one as well (she is still smiling). Walked away with two issues:

1. Has anyone else had this problem????? The new three spoke steering wheel on the car has the new Paddle Shift controls on it that are meant for the new semi autos in 06. Dealer is just as perplexed as I am but it is the first standard 06 to arrive at this Dealership. Does anyone know if this is how they are meant to come and they just show up no matter what kind of transmission you order? Or is it just a treat sent to me by the General to let me know that I'm special? If the latter is the case I wonder if it can be corrected or should I just leave it alone?

2. Very, very, very, very slight front right (passenger) side bulge on the front fender just below the hood hinge location. If I did not know to look would never have known that it was there. I recommend that all new arrivals are closely scrutinized. Not a big enough deal to me now but if it gets worse with opening and closing the hood it may become problematic.

FYI my VIN ends in ......5102406

Thanks in advance for any input!

Greg

Default You bought a 6-speed manual transmission?

Did you buy this Corvette as a 6-speed manual transmission but it came with the paddle controls for the new '06 automatic transmission?

Does it have something we don't know about, like a new paddle shifted 6-speed manual/automatic transmission with a clutch pedal?

Just kidding - sounds like a major screw-up from someone at the assembly plant.

I'm not sure I am reading number one correctly. Are you saying you bought a manual transmission and you have a steering wheel with paddle shifters? That would not be right? If the car is manual then the shifters could not be functional, could they? I'm confused.

You got a Manual 6 speed transmission... with paddles on the wheel? Sounds interesting.

Got my '06 Manual transmission, Z-51 a week ago and there are no paddle shifters on it. Those shifters are only for an automatic transmission.

I assume that you're not joking about this.

Did you get MN6 or auto. If auto, all 06's automatics are paddle shift. IF 6-speed, they screwed up big time.

The dealer does not know as well? This must be a joke. At least I hope so or there is another transmission choice nobody seems to know about.

Maybe the paddles control the stereo.

If you hit one of the paddles after shutdown will you get to join the DBS club?

Is this the new AM6 tranny?

Seriously though, if it were me I would leave it as is assuming it doesn't appear to have any side effects. You might even be able to wire the extra switches to control something else like volume control or radio scan.

Thats got to be an automatic. From your post, it does not look like you drove the car yet. If it is the first 06 for the dealer, maybe he did not recognize the new console shifter for the automatic(no button on top anymore). Someone needs to take a closer look.

It's just too easy to tell the difference between the auto and manual shifters, even at a quick glance. The manual has the shift pattern on top of the shifter **** and the auto has the PRNDS going down the top of the console, just next to shifter. Just too obvious to be mistaken IMO.

My '06 Z51 manual shift does not have the "paddles" on the wheel. Someone on the line screwed up. As far as a buldge on the fender pannels, don't see it on mine. My Z51 roadster is about 1000 units earlier based on VIN then yours. No "dissatisfiers" on my ride.

My MN6 Z51 is perfect with no paddles.

BTW, could you post pics of your setup because that is about the only way I am going to believe you.
