Will 05 be like 58?
Remember the 58 vette with the washboard hood and stainless strips down the trunk. Everyone said it had too much gingerbread, so the car lost those things in 59 and 60. Today the 58 is the most collectable of the three. So move up to 05. Xm wart, doughboy steering wheel, A4 tranny. Maybe someday the 05 will be the most popular C6. Oh yes, don't forget about the first year C2 with that crazy split-window. Hey, let's think positive.

Actually, I would hope the 2005 C6 would be more like it's 50 year preceding brother - the '55. 1955 Corvettes go for outrageous prices, and are way cool to boot.

The number of '58s produced was probably about 10% of the 05 production.

Considering that two of the items you mentioned where options, and the third (the steering wheel) look fine to most of us, and is easily interchangeable, I don't think it will be an issue. I think the 05 will be like the 97. Five years from now it will be considered a great deal because there were damn few known problems areas on the 05, and they only effected an extremely small number of cars.

Just about any one owner vehicle with low mileage, kept original, and held onto for decades becomes a valuable collector to somebody.
As for the 2005, it may be seen as a first year C6 desirable to some, but to others it's a transitional year that was left holding the bag as in one measly model year there were changes in color, new style steering wheel, hidden antenna, 6 speed auto transmission, elimination of the MN6 park in R or walk feature, tightened rag top, tuned suspension,...

This is the 1st I am hearing that the "XM Wart" is going a way.
Is this a fact? Where will the antenna be located now?
If true, it is good news.

This is the 1st I have hear of the "XM Wart" being removed.
Is this for sure? If so, where will the antenna be located?
I only drive the car 7 months a year, can you deactivate the 11.99 monthly charge and then restart it?

That's only a part of the key.
The other part is that today there are many like us here, who would place value on a nice '58. It remains a collectible icon that many would compete for. As nice as my '05 is to me today, there are too many choices and similar cars out there now. It's just become too much like a commodity. In 45 years I can't imagine anyone placing much iconic value on even a nice '05.

Corvette should have waited to intoduce the C6 when the A6 was ready. The 84 was so weak , that people still mention that...
It maybe was a Corvette in spirt only... Bring on the horsies! We will let those Northern Itailan people worry about styling.....

I relate the '05 Corvette to the '63 Sting Ray since.....

The changes from '05 to '06 are too subtle to be a consideration in the history of the C6. In fact, a future collector will be happier with the first year of production than the sophomore '06.
I think the '05 is more akin to the '65 than the forgettable '58. Next year the new "427" (1966) arrives in the C6 Z06. This cements the C6 in the Corvette "horsepower hall of fame." The C6 is the new mid-year!
Nobody ever complains about their mid-year big block's minor flaws.
'84 C4? Are you kidding?
