Default My '06 to be built in 6 more weeks!

Yep...I just got a call from my internet dealership---can you believe that a dealer would call me at home on a Saturday just hours before he was to start his vacation---and we ordered my '06 C6 on their first allocation of 4 cars. He says that it should be built during the second week of production, with initial production starting 9/9. My friend is #10 on his list and his car should be built a week or two after mine. That's the great benefit of a good allocation.

Ordered Montery Red, MN6, Z51, Nav, Preferred Equipment Group 3LT. Pretty much loaded except for chrome wheels. $3K off MSRP plus $1K off for GM credit card. $48,640 plus destination.

Now the waiting begins.

Yeah, I bought it from an internet dealership (who is still offering $3K off) and it was a good combination of price and availability. A lot of places offer a good price but can't deliver...but these guys can, as this morning indicates!

My understanding is orders cannot be submitted to GM until 8/11.

Many forum dealers including mine states that the system will not accept orders...should be on the 11th.

Just wondering - who's your dealer? Did you order locally? If so, you got a GREAT deal. I checked with just about everyone in the Bay Area before ordering and the best I found was $2K under M.S.R.P.

Maybe it's a matter of semantics. I know that they got their allocation and was ordering all four today. I did hear that you could order sooner (on 7/28) but that the factory wouldn't pick them up for scheduled production until toward the middle of August. Also, I got an email from another friend who said that Ken Fichtner had sent him an order form and had supposedly ordered his yesterday.

So whatever the procedure is, or whatever terms are used, it appears that something is taking place and that I'm in the system. The dealer's Corvette Specialist (Tom) was filling their allocation today and called me early to get my order in before he left on vacation at noon. Whether it's picked up now or on the 11th, as long as it's in the system and I get it on time, I'm a happy camper.

Also, this is a dealer I've dealt with before amd where I got my 2000 C5, so I trust them. He says that in the past, their first allocations were usually picked up during the 2nd week of production.

I don't think that CF policy allows me to name a dealer so send me an email at FunDriver@AffordSite.com and I'll be happy to help out.

My understanding is the system will accept orders TODAY, October 6, but the orders are classified as "preliminary orders". If your dealer already has allocation, those preliminary orders will become "placed orders" on August 11. Your dealer will not know applicable constraints or the TPW until August 11.

That sounds pretty logical. What does TPW stand for or what is its relevance?

Targeted Production Week - the week that your car is tentatively scheduled to be built.

Target Production Week, which is subject to change depending on parts availability, production delays or speedups, etc. When you get a TPW, GM has started planning the production of your car....the event code is typically 2500 at that point and no further changes can be made to the order.

Your dealer can monitor the Status Event Code of the order...A preliminary order will be at Status Event Code 1100 until GM "pulls" the order, making it a placed order. A dealer can input a preliminary order into the system WITHOUT ALLOCATION...it will set there at event code 1100 until he gets allocation. When the dealer receives allocation, the order will become a "placed order" and get a TPW. The status event code moves to 3000 quickly if production is moving along smoothly, and at 3800, the car is being built.

Thanks JmpnJckFlsh...great production information.

Though I have a lot of trust in my dealership and think that they will keep me advised, it seems to me that I've seen posts where someone on the forum can give status codes on the cars as they move through production. Do you know who this is?

Thanks again.

Try e-mailing fellow forum member and all-around great guy Marvin Johnson at Marvin.Johnson@HendrickAuto.com. Marvin has been graciously monitoring order progress for forum members and providing it here via regular updates on this forum. He works at a dealership (and thus has access to this info) and gathers the info on his own time.

If you contact Marvin, you'll need to provide him with your 6-letter order number and Corvetteforum user name. He is only able to track a limited number of orders at a time so you may need to wait until a delivered car drops off the top of his list before he can add yours to the bottom.

It's important to remember that Marvin does this as a favor to us here on the forum. It's a perfect example of a forum member going the extra mile to provide a valuable service that each of our respective selling dealers really ought to be willing to provide.

Default I stand corrected

and yes, it is semantics...plus I believe Jumpin' Jack is right on all points. One last thought, do you think the dealers have samples now of the Z06 interiors? If so, we could at least see a small sampling of the shade of Titanium?

I'm not sure if the dealers have samples yet for 06...though they might have some for the Z06 since it's already started production.

I was considering a Titanium interior but since I hadn't seen it in person and had to decide today on what I wanted, I kept the ebony interior. I did see a photo of a titanium insert on the side of a Z06 seat somewhere...maybe at Les Stanford Chevrolet's website... but I'm not sure. In any case, it was so small that I couldn't really imagine what the interior would look like with it. And to me, on that photo, it just looked gray, though someone said in post somewhwere that they thought it was slightly darker than the earlier gray.

Maybe Ken Fichtner might know.
