Default C6 Vent Screens

I just wanted to check and see if anyone has installed the official GM side vent screens or any other after-market type. Was the quality good and how difficult was the install?

Thanks in advance,

Jonathan McGuire

I called about them. They are expensive right near the $300 mark. My next question was how were they held on and they do in fact use tape at the vent opening. The problem I had with the "cheap" screens is that the heat escaping out the vent opening from the engine would cause the tape to peel off. I took mine off. I will wait for someone else to cough up the cash and try out the GM ones to see what effect the engine heat has on them. On the opposite end of the screen inserts it looked like it actually bolts in place so I maybe that will help to keep them attached at the vent opening end.

Thanks Cerino2000! I'm always skeptical when I see a part but no hardware or details on installation. My father always sais that "the devil is in the details!"

Thanks for your time - Jonathan

I also tried the cheap ones. They did not even stay retained for 24 hours. So I removed them. If I can get a discount on the GM screens, I will try them. I beleive the retention of the GM screens will be much more robust.

The supporting vendors sell the side screens; prices vary between $45 and $55. I've have mine on for at least 2 months. No problems at all. If they didn't stay in place, you may not have installed them correctly.

Got mine from, Corvette Grills, they have a presents on the right side. I like there grills the best. Anyway, they are not that easy to put in. You need to take the inner fender well apart. Heat up the plastic tray inside and pull up so you can put the grill in. You need to bend and fit it a but before attaching. I used industrial Velcro and taped under and over the grill, it hold no problems as yet.

Some have made their own from stainless steel that can be purchased from Home Depot (gutter screens), cut into shape, and applied behind the front wheels. Takes some work, but can be done. Ask around.

I bought mine from WCC and they keep moving, $50 ain't cheap for 2 pieces of screen and 10 peices of tape.

Gonna stop by today and get more double backed adheisive tape from them. This time I'm gonna have to take off the wheel (what a pain in the azz) and see if they go on better.

My edit won't change the incorrect spelling of "pieces," what gives?

Here we go again, Home depot has a 36" length of galvanized gutter guard $1.98. You can make about 3 sets from that and I have a FREE template on my web site. I used industrial Velcro, the key is to clean the inner fender well before applying. Also I folded the Velcro over it self on the tabs on the screens so it's not just sticking to the screen but it's self. Mine have been on for a few months and no issues. IMO you must remove the wheel to do this. I also removed the inner baffle to give me full access to the area (remove two small screws in the front door jamb).

I used GOOP an industrial glue available everywhere glue is sold. Use in place of the two sided GM tape. The screen holds up to a soap brush every few days with no give at all. If you can twist wrenchs you can put these screens in without removing any wheels. This is a DYI

I knew who it was but wasn't sure if it was cool to disclose that or not! Guess it's not a big deal?

I did the PD set. Tried them several times thinking maybe there was tension of something on the tabs. Used the Industrial strength velcro too. The top inside one on both sides would come loose due to the engine heat. You couldn't tell by looking at them but I noticed that the one (of four) tabs was not holding and was afraid that the others would come off over time too so I just removed them. The last time I put them on I thought it was a matter of the backing on the industrial velcro not having enough to stick to (i.e. it's screen, mostly holes, not enough screen metal for a good backing). So I put the velcro on both sides of the tabs so at the very least, each piece of velcro would have a mating piece on the the other side of the tab to stick to thus giving a full contact area. Took 2 days and it peeled itself off due to the heat. Again, you couldn't really tell unless you inspected it closely. I think maybe with an even stronger glue or something maybe they would have stuck.

Glad I was able to try it with the PD versions as opposed to dropping $30+ from other sources. For $10, it was worth the try.

I got the side vent screens here. They have been on for about 3 months now and have not moved. They seem very solid. I have washed it several times and no problems.

Hello SSCAMARO!

Is the install difficult in terms of getting to the vent area?

Thanks in advance!

No, you just have to remove the inner fender panel. Best to take off the wheels.

Roger that!

I thought that was the logical entry point but just wanted to check. The GM version looks to be about the same product and similar type of installation.

Thanks again - Jonathan
