It'll be nice to try out XM for the long trip back to Texas after my (planned) museum delivery this year, but I've heard good things about Sirius and will probably switch when Howard Stern goes to satellite next year.

I probably would not have ordered XM if I had a choice but I bought my car off the showroom floor. I have no experience with Sirus but Xm is far superior to commercial radio. After the free months I renewed and am very happy I did.

wouldn't listen to Stern if they gave me the subscription for free. I don't like the comedy channel on xm because every other word seems to be a curse word. I'm no prude but that stuff is just not for me. Again, to each his own.

What does installing a Sirius system involve? Will the stock radio/CD/XM unit have to be removed, or can a Sirius system be "piggybacked" onto the stock system?

With either XM or Sirius, you could use an FM Modulator to feed a signal from the portable unit to an FM station. That is the easiest, but provides for the least sound quality.

LIFETIME subscription fee!
That's the car's lifetime or the company's lifetime? It will be horserace to see if XM lasts as long as your C6.

I wanted good programming with XM, but did not get it. The XMComedyXl channel is nice, but one channel does not justify a subscription. I have not yet renewed beyond my free 3 months.

Good move. NPR, Air America, a Celtic music program and 50's Jazz on non-commercial FM (public) radio and Classic Jazz CD's are what I like. Plus occasional 60's and early 70's rock for the aging hippie that I am.
I've heard Sirius is better than XM for music. Don't have either, but did listen to XM on a rental car once for a week...thought it stunk, music-wise.

Have had Sirius in all our cars. Couldn't stand XM. Couldn't use the XM antenna because GM used an OBSOLETE 2 lead antenna in order to make it not work with Sirius. (GM owns a lot of XM stock). So, the installer and I cut out a piece of fiberglass where the XM antenna wire exits and placed the Sirius antenna (which came with the Alpine Sirius box) up into the cavity against the top of the fiberglass and... no unsightly additional antenna and great reception. This told me two things:1) There was no need for the visible XM antenna and 2) GM goes out of their way to put cheap crap into an otherwise great car! (the ISB 6 cd changer is a real piece of crap IMHO also, at least in terms of MP3 functionality).

I am not wild about XMs programming. But it is better than regular FM any day, And the comedy channels can turn a bad traffic jam into a laugh riot. But they dig too deep on their decades stations. I for one don't want to hear songs that didn't make it to the top. And MIX the one I listen to the most plays way, way, way too much John Mayer, I have yet to get into that car and not have them play one of that hacks songs. I have to change to Top Tracks when they do. Also they play the crap out of Lenny Cravit's Lady. Also the commercials are only on the non music channels. All in all I would rather have Sirius from what I have heard. Again I will take XM over terrestrial radio any day.
