funny dealer story
So I've had the Victory Red Z51 C6 for about 2 weeks now, and it was both the craziest and best thing I've ever done. However, I thought obligated to share my experience at a local Houston dealer. After I went to look at a VR C6 there, I was really impressed. Impressed enough to drag my GF there to have her check it out. At the time, she was pretty unhappy with me for looking to drop a bunch of cash on the car, because she's tight - tight like my grandmother who puts Solo plastic cups in the dishwasher tight. Anyway, the sales guy wouldn't even give me the time of day. He said that he had a few more coming in, but didn't bother to look up which options/colors. He didn't even ask for my contact info.
Anyway, my GF was looking at the VR C6 in the showroom, and I can tell something was decidely wrong with the encounter. After a few minutes, she comes over and says, "you bastard, you told me it was like $50k, not $70!" I look at her with a puzzled face, and she points to a sticker on the front window that says $20k dealer markup! I had a good laugh at this one, then we drove to Dallas and picked one up that week.
So did the C6 have a crazy markup when it first hit the showroom floor?

Sometimes I wonder if the dealers think everyone is stupid. Still, it must work for them, or they wouldn't keep doing it. It isn't unusual to see a car (not Corvettes) with a $2000 factory rebate and a market adjustment sticker.
If the factory feels that incentives are needed to sell the car, why does the dealer feel that the market is 'hot'?

Come on - the dealer would probably have given you a $10,000 discount.
I guess if someone will buy it. Saw a H2 in a showroom with a $6,000 custom paint package and a $6100 chrome (both dealer installed). Maybe that was why it and a dozen others were just sitting in the showroom.

It did in Texas - last December. My Dallas dealer sold two power top verts to people from Houston at $7K and $9K over sticker and the purchasers felt likely to get that price. Fortunately, as an existing customer, I didn't have to worry about adjustments or sticker when I ordered my vert just before XMAS. Of course, by then the power tops were constrained, etc. But it was worth the wait and it gave BG time to work out the crank pulley problem before mine was finally built.

I went two two dealers in South Florida. One had a 6K and another had a 10K adjustment (plus 1K in useless extras).. Both wanted to then add the standard Florida $600 charge for "dealer prep"...

Guess I'm lucky. About 3 weeks ago I went to my local dealership to inquire about allocation time to order an '06 for museum delivery. There were 2 brand new C6's on the showromm floor, and the sales manager said I could have my pick--$2K off MSRP, plus $1K rebate. I took one home that day.
