Driving your "C6" stick to work in heavy traffic.
How do you guys/gals do it?
With the manual stick I can't enjoy my tea on the drive in.
I can't use drive-thru's, for fear of hitting the curb.
I can't use my cell phone for fear of crashing the car while needing to shift down or up.
In heavy stop-and-go traffic I'm in pain. Now driving my HONDA Pilot, I've got the tea/coffee thing going, phone no problem to answer. No shifting.
HOW DO YOU HANDLE THIS? Argh!
-Bill.

I pick mine up on May 16th from NCM , I've already banned anybody (myself included) from drinking anything but water in my C6. And I have vowed to stay away from drive-thrus and my cell phone. I imagine I am going to be too damn excited while driving my car to eat or talk to anyone.

Why would the stick make you hit a curb at a drive thru? If you like to talk on your cell alot while driving you owe it to the people that you will eventually run over to get a hands free kit. You dont have to have the tea/coffee in your hand every second do you? Im pretty hard core with my coffee but I do set that sucker down now and then.

Much as I LOVE Manuals, Phoenix Traffic Day to Day, the Auto is perfect.

I enjoy shifting through the gears. When I'm driving, for my own safety and that of others on the road, I try to concentrate on driving. I don't eat, drink, or make phone calls while I'm driving. I do go through drive-throughs sometimes -- no problems there.

Sounds like you have a pretty tough life. Maybe a tour of duty in the "real world" e.g., Iraq would make you understand/appreciate how very small your "problems" are.

NO EATING OR DRINKING IN MY C6, EVER.
I also don't use the cell phone while driving. I've had to dodge too many who did and almost had 2 wrecks trying to get out of their way, just since I got the C6.
Glad I traded my 6-spd for an auto - too much traffic in town.

Unless you live out and away, you can't enjoy shifting and winding turns like in TV commercials. The real world for me is much different. I love shifting gears in the old Corvettes but my C6 is an automatic and I'm glad I made the decision not to get the 6 speed.

I did the Toronto commute from Oakville last week in the C6. Although the clutch isn't as heavy as the WS6 used to be, it was still a pain in the ***. I will be stickin to my 330ci which is pu*sy stick (steptronic).

Definitely takes some getting used too first, and then start with the cell phone or drinks.
Here's what I do....phone calls are very short and callers on the other end realize if I stop talking, it's because I have to shift gears which I love every minute of.
When taking a drink of water (I drink coffee, water, cokes etc. in mine) or whatever your fancy is, just make sure you're not about to reach a shift point. It's really not that difficult.
If the traffic is very heavy or in a particularly dangerous area I won't make or answer a call. PERIOD!
I am lucky enough to be able to plan my commutes so that I don't sit in alot of heavy traffic but when I do get caught and might as well make a call or two, then 2nd gear seems fine for take offs, so all I am doing is letting out and pushing in the clutch.
Not a Problemo

I'm in Houston, and fortunately, usually work at our suburban office. On those days I must go downtown, I either use flex hours to go early before rush hour, or take my wife's car. A 45 minute stop and go is no fun in any manual, let alone with a stiff clutch.
As to spills, just like parking lot dings, you get less paranoid as the car ages. And with all the engine torque that's available, you can skip a lot of gears to temporarily minimize shifting if necessary.
But like the other guy, I'm hard pressed to see the connection between 6-speed and drive-in windows.

Seriously, we had a road worker maimed this week by a driver eating in his car. I'd rather you didn't get in the same situation.
