Tell Me the DISADVANTAGES of Owning A Vette
Hey guys & gals....
I am obviously a new member here, and have been reading many posts and lurking mostly to learn more about this incredible car. I have never owned a Corvette, let alone any GM car, but am smitten by the C6. I would sincerely like to know your opinions and experiences of the DISADVANTAGES of owning one. I've owned several modestly powered sports cars & ragtops, but never one this powerful. I've also read a number of car magazine reviews, but they rarely hit on any downsides. So - tell me what I should think about and consider (other than the price!) before committing myself (to the car, that is!) Thanks in advance for your help!

depending on where you live, the tax, registration, and insurance prices might surprise you.
other than that Id be hard pressed to find any real disadvantages that arent overwhelmingly
outweighed by the benefits.

Drifting
The only disadvantage I see living in the North is needing a second vehicle for the Winter months. Too much rear wheel torque to be driving these on ice. It kills me to park through the winter months, but it has to be done IMO. It is nice though to have the 4x4 for hauling and such all year 'round. Vettes definately are a way of life...I just have to hold my breath during the cold spells.

Hmm Disadvantages ..... in no particular order
1. The car draws a lot of attention, particularly by the law.
2. It goes like hammers and is really difficult to not want to execise those horses. (See No. 1 above)
3. It is a chick magnet ... not necessarily a good thing if you are married.
4. It accelerates the onset of spring fever.
5. It aggravates any Tennis Elbow ... from all the polishing you will do.
6. It takes longer to pump gas ... everyone wants to talk about your car.
7. Buying numerous waxes, rags etc will definitely impact your budget!
8. Buying new exhaust systems, Matts, Wheels, Audio Systems to make the car your own will also definitely impact your budget.
9. Get the car and you will spend more time on the forums ... thus spending less time with the family and friends.
Oh yes and reason number 10 .... did I mention that this thing goes like hammers and you will spend lots of time wiping the grin from your face!
The upside is you get one of the best cars ever built in America and it's worth every penny.

there are a couple of things to a disadvantage
1) during the winter months if you live up north-not being able to drive it...this is by far the worst. Sometimes i just sit in it and stare at it..hoping the winter ends soon
2)payment & insurance..a real hit to the old wallet especially if your single and young!
thats really about it....however the advantages and the fun you will get out of it totally outweigh the disadvantages!

Insurance on mine is only about 40% more than my wife's new Aveo.
Mine is a daily driver, which means that when I go to Walgreens or (gasp, yes) Wal-Mart, I park about 6-12 parking places away from everyone else for obvious reasons.
Even though I recently bought a pickup, I still look for excuses to go somewhere in the C6, although that's not really a disadvantage.
Depreciation is a minor disadvantage, but since I plan to drive the car for 3-5 years, it won't be a lot more per year than some other vehicles I've owned.

You'll be CONSTANTLY LATE for everything you do!
What used to take you 15 minutes to drive to will now take 2-3 hours!
You'll wear out "shoe leather" as you find yourself constantly walking around it not really believing it's yours.
You'll loose sleep ... getting up in the middle of the night just to make sure it's all really true - YOU OWN A 'VETTE!
People will ask you what cologne you're wearing....."C6 for men"...that steamy leather, new car smell. Hence you MAY stop bathing for awhile.
And, last but not least -

If you don't do it now....when you finally do get one you'll regret the years you wasted driving anything else!
