First Production Z06 Friday Feb 4
Thursday, my son and I met at Nashville, stayed at the Country Hearth, and met the folks at the Corvette Museum early Friday morning for my Museum delivery.
Our personal tour of the plant was interrupted when our guide was informed that the first Z06 was coming down the production line. We went over to look, just as the body was about to be married to the engine, trans, rear etc assembly. It was blue.
There were scores of management people surrounding the car, taking notes, plus some assembly people who were following the car and seemed to be doing each step. They all seemed delighted when the marrage was complete, at which point we had to move along, but I wanted to pass that along to anyone who was interested.
Later on in the day, we finally drove the car out and started the trip home to Estero, Florida. My car is a Silver convertable , with Black top and interior and is fully loaded. The trip home was a blast, but hard to keep within the 500 mile guideline. Hopefully the car will forgive me.
All I can say about the car is that I have gotten used to the front end and I would just say that its a beautiful car, more taut and muscular looking than my 97 coupe. In every way its superior to my 97. Every aspect of the car seems to be better with a lot of new features.
I see a lot of talk about which suspension to order on this forum over the past 6 months and I wanted to weight in. I was nervous about ordering the Z51 transmission, but I have no regrets now. While I will never know how a standard or F55 feels, I can tell you that the Z51 feels better on the road then my '97. The car is firm, corners like it's on rails, but is comfortable and definely not harsh.
Also I love the Nav system (my first), the HUD is very cool and functional, the FOB system is a little crazy but I will get used to it. The seats are better, the interior is better, the shifter is better...
What can I say, its a great car! Full speed ahead.
Thank you all for all the help you unwittingly gave me over the past few months. It all helped me get a great automobile!

And that car, in my prediction, with it's hand-built engine, will usher in for us C6'ers, a normal 427 assembly line lower horse engine, that will become an option, ala the early 1967 427 which came in 3 versions; 390hp w/single 4bbl, 400hp w/three 2's, or435...in about 3 years.

The Z06 used for the unveiling was built at the plant the week of December 13. That was the week my vert was built. I wasn't able to go down and see it being built because the plant was closed to the public due to the Z06 being on the line.
