Back from BG, seen 2006 coupe with paddle shift
We saw our car built at the Corvette BG assembly plant. We met Kevin at 11:30 a.m., he took us directly to our car. Got to start it for the first time. My wife got to sit in the driver seat while a lady installed a piece of the console. At the end of the line I recieved a Corvette Birth certificate signed by plant manager and an operator. To get this certificate you must drive it off the line, I did it! Next a lady took over the car and drove it to the allignment pit. Then after she drove off of the pit she went to the DYNO. After the dyno test, Kevin took us to the very beginning of the line. When we got to the engines, there were three LS2 and one LS7 sitting on a pallet. Kevin asked me which one was the LS7. I said the one with the larger flatter intake manifold. I was right!
Also last but not least, we saw a 2006 red coupe, 6 speed auto. It had a Z06 steering wheel with paddles. These paddles look like they were facing upward from the back side of the horizontal spoke. A person told me it was paddle shifting.
Kevin was the best guide we have had the privilege of associating with. His knowledge of all the areas was A-1. All the workers were very friendly and dedicated to their work, took it very seriously.
Built 1-24-05

thats intersting...but wouldnt a paddle shifter be in an auto...having a paddle in a MN6 kind of defeats the purpose...cant wait to see what GM has under their sleeve...

Did you by any chance see Victory Red coupe, cashmire interior with 6 speed and the Z51 package moving down the line Monday? My car was to be built that day and needless to say I'm getting itchy to get it. Thanks Jack

It may not be for model year 2006. I remember being at the plant in April 1999 and they had a coupe on the line with a sign in the front window stating it was a 2001.

If you want to see what a VR coupe/Cash Z51 looks like coming off the line, go here:

Except I've got QX1 wheels. Did you e-mail Kevin at BG for a status?

I am surprised that they changed things, I was under the impression no one was allowed to "drive" a car in the plant, I too have a birth certificate (actually 2), it was for starting the car the first time and this was not near anywhere it could be driven.....

Given the type of driving I do, I went with an auto.
However, I would have no problem living with a car with F1 shifters. Even if they're not the smoothest shifting cars around, all those Modenas can't be all wrong.
