How many here have lowered your Z's?
If so, did you get an alignment? How much did you drop yours? Is it a bad idea to lower a car with less that 50 miles on it?

I lowered the front all the way with stock bolts, no cutting of the bushings. I left the back stock however as I like the slightly raked look. The front only came down about 1/2". Haven't done an alignment yet but I plan to in the near future.

I lowered mine almost 2" as soon as I got it home from the dealership and yes, an alignment is a must.

I have a brand new '04 Z also. I lowered it on stock bolts two days after
getting it (no alignment because not necessary). I'm going lower another inch
this weekend (cut front bushings and longer bolts in rear, I think).

Re: How many here have lowered your Z's? (2002c5blackcoupe)
I lowered mine all the way in the front, and about half way in the back, I don't think mileage has anything to do with when you should do it. I did mine as soon as I could.
With regards to an alignment, wait a few days and then have it done asap, your car will be off. It takes about 2 days for your car to settle after you lower it.
As a matter of fact, depending on how you drive, an alignment should be done every 4-6 months. I take my car to track events a lot so having all four wheels rolling in the same direction is critical.
It's doesn't cost much, a local shop did mine for 60 bucks.
good luck! :)

Re: How many here have lowered your Z's? (Nat04Z06)
I drove mine for 2 years before lowering it a couple months ago. I know some people on this board have said that lowering didn't affect the ride quality. On my car, it certainly did.
I lowered it as far as I could go without modifying the bushings. I was really unhappy with the ride so I raised it back up slightly. Lowered all the way, the car would sort of bounce on every little bump in the road (similar to those crappy low riders you see sometimes).
My advice would be to lower the back about half way (without modifing the bushings) and lower the front about 3/4 of the way (without modifying the bushings). This gave me a much better look with only minimal ride degredation.

Re: How many here have lowered your Z's? (Piranha)
An alignment is absolutely 100% necessary after lowering even if only stock bolts. But waiting a day or two is a good idea to let it settle. I lowered mine using all stock bolts about 9/16 in front and about 11/16 in rear. Got Alignment done less than a week later. My stock alignment was so far off that the front right wheel would not even register on the laser aligning machine. [/QUOTE]
A Corvette specialist shop in town lowered mine, and they said I didn't need
an alignment if all I was going to do was turn the bolts. Sure enough, my
Coupe drove straight; there was absolutely no pulling to either side and no
uneven tire wear after about six months of daily driving. My new Z has
driven the same, straight as can be. I am going to have them cut the
bushings so I can lower the Z more. They said I will need to get an
alignment after doing this. It's a small price to pay to have the car look much
better, IMO.

Definitly have an alignment done and letting it settle is a good idea all you need to do that is drive it around for a bit. I got 3/4" front and 5/8" rear and did an alignment myself immediatly after lowering it.

Okay, an alignment will be in order but what alignment specs are you guys using? Tthe stock specs? If so, anyone know what they are for an '04?

lowered mine 1 in front and 1 1/2 in back....honestly it makes it kind of a pain in city driving especially over speed bumps, but its sweet as hell on the highway cruisin....

Re: How many here have lowered your Z's? (Racer44)
I recommend you take the car to an alignment shop that will interview you on how you drive the car, if you track it, how aggressive you are etc. Also that has you sit in the car while the alignment is done. If they don;t do these things go to another shop, a local Vette club in your area probably knows the best shop.
And no, I don't run stock alignment.

Anytime You touch the suspension like that you ALWAYS get it aligned. With the price of tires it's cheap insurance.
