Default G.M Recall of 127000 Corvettes

I saw this posted on C5 Forum. I just checked out Reuters.com and did search on G.M so far i believe it has to do with steering column lock up.

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified in the second quarter. 1997-2004

P.S Sorry for duplicate thread. I know alot of Z06 guys go right into this Forum. Just thought i would give them a heads up.

Yeah, I saw that too. If it's really a recall, I guess we can all expect letters from GM ... Of all things GM stated that there had been no complaints about this from 'the field' ... Wake up GM. We don't drive 'em in the field ... tell us about complaints from driveways, garages and parking lots. :mad

I wouldn't suggest getting it. If you read it carefully you'll see that the purpose of this recall is not to fix a possible CL - but to make sure that fuel system will be disengaged when this happens. This recall will basically prevent driving a car with CL.

I think GM is just trying to cover their behind in case somebody wrecks a car driving in circles.

Typical GM, not fixing the problem of the column lockups but it legally for themselves to cover their butts. Also to dismiss the investigation by the NHTSA!!!

Just was at the NHTSA site looking at the recall, the fix for the M6 is to reprogram the PCM so the fuel supply will cut off if it does not unlock. Problem was if voltage is low the fuel cut off did not work. Too bad GM could not find the reason & the fix on why the column locks up instead of a work around fix bandaid!!! We will still get the lock ups but now it won't be a safety issue just an inconvenience.

Also to get the NHTSA to close the case. To GM they don't mind the inconvenience to the driver of it locking up only the safety reason of not moving. Like you said just to cover their butts instead of eliminating the problem of locking up. With our C5's it is pull key & wait 10 seconds, what about the C6 will it be push button & wait another 10 seconds. If they finally correct the locking mechanism for the C6 maybe they can apply the fix to us. What everyone out of warranty should do if they get a lock up is sue GM in small claims court for the costs involved, the recall admits the problem with no fix. :mad :cuss
