C6 on the cover of Car and Driver...not impressed
Is it me, or is the C6 a C5 tricked out clothing ?
Same motor, just bored out to a 6.0 from a 5.7
3179lb curb weight vs. ZO6's 3045
Same suspension control arms...
Same T-56 Tremec
Same 3.42
Not to bash the General but cmon....I'd rather have a ZR-1 and I definitely would not sell my Z06 for the 1st year model
I don't know about you guys but I'm kind've disapointed...We'll see how they run.

"The number of C5 parts that were carried over to the C6 can fit in a bushelbasket" - Dave Hill
It's a great car, and it's not a reskinned C5.

I like it too, but I guess it's not for everybody. Even if I really like it after I've seen it I will wait for the second year production before I trade. :yesnod:

I am not trading my Z06 for a C6 coupe but I think that the new car looks great. Don't buy it if it does not appeal to you, but don't bash it either. There is no replacement for displacement and this new motor probably has some great midrange power with lots of mod potential.

Guys...read the article
This is not an entirely new platform. It is a new Vette and it does kick a-z-z, I'm proud of it but lets call a cat a cat...it's the same motor, with the same transmission and it's still hasn't lost any weight.
based on the numbers I have, The hp to weight ratio for the C6 is 8.00 compared to 7.69 for a Z yet, this car is just as expensive if not more.
If GM is going to sell this car to an enthusiats, the numbers better start making sense or I'm just going to be on the recieving end of a wave....Right now, the Z is the better bang for your buck.

This may be an arguable point each time a new generation Vette reaches the market. I'm sure the C1 guys blasted GM for coming out with those new fangled C2 '63 Stingrays. I have to say that even though the C6 hasn't hit me as a must have yet, I am struck by how much "Corvette" flavor they designed into the new package. Let's face it, the C5 is long, slender, sleek and lovely. To come up with a new design that is edgy, somewhat shorter and perhaps more agressive looking and still retain that Corvette 'look' is remarkable. Can't wait to see the Z06 equivalent. :chevy

No offence, but have you been to the C6 section? There is one here. Go on over there and you will see you are in the minority by a large margin. Plus, why are you comparing the C6 to the Z06? You need to compare it the the C5 coupes. :yesnod: Also, the C6 Z06 will kick the living daylights out of our current Z06's, almost everybody already knows a bad kept secret. 500+ HP :smash: :smash:

By the way. If you listened to Dave Hill during the introduction of the C6 in Detroit, he said the C6 was doing lap times almost as quick as the current Z06, and the car handled much better. :smash: :smash:

I'm aware of 500hp C6 Z...I'm also aware that numbers don't lie. GM wants north of 50 grand for this thing, yet this car still ways 3200 lbs without gas and has the SAME motor and transmission as it's older brother. It's going to take one hell of a driver to outrun a hardtop c5 that's 200 pounds lighter..stock vs. stock
we can talk dave hill and magazine article numbers all you want, but in the REAL world, you better know how to drive because no C6 is going to just WALK on the Z or any other Vette for that matter.
Now where's my flame suit...

You are assuming a lot about the C6 based on curb weight and peak HP. I would be more interested to see how much power it makes under the HP & Torque curves. That is more important than a single peak value. This new motor has more displacement and it should have a wider powerband.

My 2003 Z is great and I love its looks. I am not all that impressed wth the looks of the C6. It sounds like a great new vette. MY question is " will they make the new Z06 different from the regular vette. I don't think they distinguish the Z from the regular vette enough :yesnod:

From the Car & Driver article:
We shall see.
The Corvette's technical daddy, Dave Hill, says 70 percent of the parts numbers are new. We frequently go through this with manufacturers. If the suspension control arms look exactly the same but carry a different parts number, are they new?
We'll compromise and say the 2005 Corvette is the C5 and 11/16ths.

It usually takes me a few months before my mind's made up; however, I do remember that I liked the C5 better than the C4 right away. I'm not so sure with the C6. The C6 Z06 will probably be differentiated more from the "standard" C6 in appearance (besides performance), from what I've read so far. 500 hp stock won't come cheap, however. I wonder if it will be bumping Viper territory pricing then?
