giggle like a school girl
I've had my 03 Z since May of this year, and I've done a lot of road racing and other high speed acceleration... the handling of this car is just amazing. I call it the "Devil car" because I was on an unfamiliar course, took a corner way too fast [I thought], and the car went through it without even kicking on Active Handling!
But, I hadn't done any drag racing-style hard launches with it until yesterday. Found an empty stretch of nice pavement and floored it...
HOLY POOPIE
I started losing traction at 4000 rpms in 1st! I've had cars that would roast them from a stand still, but to launch a car right and start losing traction at 4000? INSANE! Have to turn on Competitive driving and try again....
1st --> 2nd shift at rpm peak, got the car completely sideways... nothing like having the rear end shake, it's like God reaches down and tweaks the rear, and then it just hooks and steps into place.
This car is great.

Re: giggle like a school girl (WisconsinVETTE)
My favorite is using a large empty parking lot on Sunday morning... turn off the traction control and just nail it... slidding sideways to the left all the way through first and then as you hit second it starts sliding all the way back over to the right, hit 3rd and she grips and propels you to 100 MPH in seconds. Just friggin' amazing...
This is why I own stock in tire companies - haha

HOW DOES ALL THIS TRACTION CONTROL STUFF WORK...?

just how big is this parking lot that you can reach 100 mph in?
maybe you should buy stock in hmo's for your survivor's sake...

how did you lose traction at 4000 rpm with traction control on by default?
so *then* you turn on competetive driving and get the car completely sideways?

Before the second launch, I held the AH button down for 5 secs which turns on Competitive Mode. This turns off TC but leaves AH on.
AH won't kick in until you get the car completely out of control, TC spanks your butt as soon as you get a tire spinning.

TRACTION CONTROL/ACTIVE HANDLING
i'd like to know how this traction control stuff works, too..
on sunday, got "service traction control" and "service active handling" on the DIC of my '03 z06... let some air out of the tires (had over-inflated for AX) and the messages went away...
that's a mighty smart computer that can figure out that tires-without-wheel-sensors are over-inflated. how does it do it? (got an engineer at work who says it's "impossible")
