A Few Z06 Tire Questions... help me out fellas
My car is in the shop getting fixed and I have the wheels off to get them custom done (black w/ polished lip) I noticed that the rear tires are barely above the wear tabs and will be worn out soon.
How many miles (daily driving) do these tires have left in them if they're just over the tabs? The tires are comming off to get the wheels done, so should I just go ahead and get new tires put on instead of getting crappy ones put back on.
Assuming I should go ahead and get some new tires... which should I get. I have seen a number of you running the kumho's as a great alternative. I hear they do better in the wet and almost as good in the dry. Also doesn't goodyear make another really high performance tire that ya'll use.
Thanks

My opinion,
1. get new tires
2. check out http://www.tirerack.com
there's a wealth of information that should help you decide on a replacement.
I think tire selection is a personal thing...stay within your means and get as much tire as you can afford.
Good luck :)

I am not a fella but I can tell you I would say the Kumho's are about as sticky as the F1's, even on the track-and MUCH better in the rain.
Got mine at Tirerack-through CCW when I had the wheels mounted/balanced

you will LOVE the CCW'S-call John up for a price, he'll put the wheels and tires together for you and have them on your door in no time. I went with the black anodized centers, 18" all around, 275/295's

Is the Proxes S1 tire the same as the Proxes T1-S?

Having Burned off several sets of Khumhos on my old mustang I will tell you that they are no where near as sticky as the F1's. Guys dont be so hard on the F1's they have to be about the best set of rubber I have ever drivin on. I put about 8 sets of tires on my superchrged 1993 Mustang coupe just last year. I have had michelins, goodyear, and BFG. There are lots of good tires out there but only a few at the top. The only thing I see is the F1's are bad in rain. Not bad on wet pavement just standing water. My car at 50% treadwear will hydroplane for miles at a time , i am not joking. Just this weekend I was on a road trip and had a Truck that I had passed earlier come up and get close behind me in a steady rain. I wanted him to back off a little so i crept up to about 60 in the rain and the tail stepped out about a foot. I left it there for 400 or 500 yards and then let it wag the other way for about that far. Needless to say he realized what was happening and backed off a little. heh heh.
