When I mash the gas, shouldn't I light up the tires?
I've tried a few times to (in 1st gear) get the rpm's up to 3000+,then slam the gas to the floor. The tires spin a little, but not like I'd expect from a beast like my 03 ZO6. It's stock except for a K&N. My 300HP worked 91 Mustang would have the tires screaming for a second or two. Is there something wrong, or are the tires that good @ traction?? I have 1600 mi on the car. I've seen a post here or there where guys are saying they can't hook up on the street. Thanks! :D

You're popping the clutch at 3000 rpm and not getting wheelspin? Do you turn off the traction control?

Hey Dr,
Find your favorite Dino, and run one out. Maybe there is an issue? It's like going to the Doctor, and getting a clean bill of health, we hope!
 :chevy
Hit second hard in mine and the darn thing paved the road for 20' :hurray:

If I hit in 1st or second the car fishtails, even with the traction control on.

No,I'm moving in 1st gear up @ around 3500rpm's when I smash the gas peddal to the floor. The car roars & spins the tires some, but not any where near as much as I expected. I thought they'd go up in smoke for quite a few feet.

I do get a lot more spin w/ the T/C off. I just thought there would be out of control spin.

Re: When I mash the gas, shouldn't I light up the tires? (Dr.Ron)
Hmmm...
Well, in 2nd gear (with TC on) the back tires did a kind of a spin hop thing - that was with a good mash of the throttle. Now if do a mash of the throttle into 3rd the tires will make a good chirp and the car's back-end will shimmy (with TC on).
I haven't found a road that I feel safe enough yet to see what the car will do without TC on in a first thru fourth run so I leave TC on most of the time.
You might try "competitive drive" mode. Just hold down the TC button over 5 seconds and the DIC will light up to let you know it's active.

Burning Brakes
Re: When I mash the gas, shouldn't I light up the tires? (Dr.Ron)
This is Extremely temperature dependent !
Here in Miami in the Summer, I hardly get any wheelspin just flooring it in first from a roll. In January when we get days in the 40's and 50's same exact flooring in same exact place get MASSIVE wheel spin.
Cooler temp, power up + traction down. Hot temp, power down + traction up.
You will become familiar with this equation...
MD

You must have the tires we all dream about. Are you sure they are not slicks? Check TC/AH-Off. Good luck

A stock Z06 in really hot weather like we have now will not go crazy if you punch it at 3500rpms in first.
Now wait til it gets to be 50 or lower outside or take it up to 5500 rpm and try it and report back to us. :)

Tried it again on the way home from hockey. T/c & A/H off,got some spin w/ a left to right fish tail, banged 2nd & got a little spin, hit 3rd & got a chirp. I guess I just expected a little more out of this baby. Traction is a good thing though. Just making sure I've got the power I should. Waiting for some free time to make a few passes @ Englishtown. Maybe another week or 2 at street night. :auto:

congratulations, you have much better tires than your mustang had.
=)
if you want more wheelspin in this situation, put some kumho 712s on the rear. I use 275 kumho 712s for daily driving since my autocross alignment will eat up tires fast. they spin much easier than the goodyear f1 supercars =)

Doc. make sure you turn the traction cont. off, or go to comp. driving. I think you'll see more smoke than you want leaving at 3000, Good luck. :chevy

Put it in Comptetion Mode hold button down for about 5 seconds, you should be able to do a decent burnout :steering:

Just hit the button once and shut off both TC & AH. Competition mode will apply brakes if the car starts to fishtail. This is not the best situation for doing a big burnout.
