The latch spring should be able to lift the trunk door enough to slide your fingers inside and open it the rest of the way. If this does not happen, check to see if the spring inside the latch assembly is missing. If it's not missing, have a service mechanic look at it and try to adjust it. If it can't be adjusted, have the latch assembly replaced.

Pull the carpet back from around the lock mech area. Spray a little WD-40 or the lube of your choice. Good as new. This happens alot in the colder weather months.

Make sure the weather strip seal is not sticking to the trunk lid. Mine sticks some times after I wash it.
The whole thing seems like a weak design but it it is really light weight and that is the real point anyway isn't it.

Open up your trunk and take a look on each respective side of the lid. There should be a spring loaded post with a plastic hexagonal "****" on each side of the trunk.
Try backing each side out about 1/4 turn. This should give more spring pressure to the trunk lid and pop the lid open more positively. Don't get too carried away with the adustments or the trunk will become hard to close. Make sure you back each side out about the same. If that doesn't work, go to the dealer, there were some cars which had bad latches and/or bad actuators.

my '99 FRC had the same problem & on mine I sprayed WD40 on the gas shock shafts near the end. The factory had painted the ends of the shaft and when closed the the shocks compress more than when painted, this painted section hangs on the tip gas shock.
Mine has been working great ever since.
Thanks,
