Re: If you owned a coupe or a 'vert before your Z06... (ivox)
Have enjoyed owning coupes and verts, absolutely no regrets with my Z06.
IMHO, tighter, more power, better in corners, more fun, but I still respect and would not hesitate to get another vert or coupe. C5's are great cars, all bring smiles, and everybody can choose what's best for them.

I went from an absolutely immaculate supercharged coupe and have zero regrets selling it to buy this Z06. None whatsoever.

Probably the wrong place to say this but I miss the Vert. Speed and control is great on the Z but living in the great north east there aren't many places to use it and the vert had features and a look I miss. Having said that I'm not about to part with the Z but I may rip the roof off it! :D

Well, I miss the 'vert. And I just got the z06 2002 , just 2 weeks ago.
I'll keep the z06.
I'm now looking for a 'vert. It will push the $$$ a bit , but if I find the one, I'll go for it.
Choices currently are to buy another "NEW" SPEEDWAY WHITE, with white TOP or a 72 , 'vert, ontario orange. Both auto. Not sure to spend the money. Lots and lots of $$$$$.

Wecome to the forum.
I had the Coupe (A4) first and picked up the Z06 about 18 months ago.
On long trips the Coupe is the one I like to drive but the Z06 is a lot more fun. :)

I had an '00 Coupe, and I don't regret it for a second. I thought I might, but that's a big HELL NO now.

Thanks everyone for the feedback!!
I've been lurking on this board since I got my 01 a couple years ago. Finally signed up a couple weeks ago for a un/pw.
It's vette owners like yourselves that makes me proud to be one of the few!
A big "wave" to you all...
Drive safe!

Ivox, After having the Z06 for a week I have some observations. First of all "reservations" is too strong of a word. There are "differences" is more like the proper description. It is noisier, at idle, in the driveway or at any speed, due to exahust and those sticky tires. The fact that the inside trunk doors and covers are gone can't help things. I used to be able to hear the radio or CD at speed on the highway but not so much anymore. (My friend just back from a long trip doesnt agree but he never had a coupe like me) It is neat to be able to remove your top but that makes you more susceptible to air and water leaks but I think that the coupe is sleeker looking. On the other hand, damn this thing screams! It just is so much quicker without being hard to drive. I'd expected it to ride tough with the hd suspension but that part is okay. The brakes are really very grippy and it is easy to point and click it to where you want it to go. I got to thinking about what the car is used for and that helps put things into perspective.......I have a fast quiet family sedan for road trips so a race car for shorter hops is a great compromise. Corvettes are about speed and power, and that makes this one hot. Go for it. Streetrod

Well I could live with the Z06 as the only car, but it is really nice to have the choice.

I think I am quite qualified to answer this question. I have had 1 coupe and 4 Verts before my Z06. I will admit, I do miss the verts sometimes, but I do not miss the coupe. The Z06 is by far the most awesome of the C5's I have owned and I would not change it for a Vert now that I have experienced what a world class car should feel like.

Re: If you owned a coupe or a 'vert before your Z06... (ivox)
I just this moment got home from trading my '01 coupe for an '03 Z06. I thought I was going to wait for the C6, but I just couldn't resist the new deal of 0% financing or $2,000 cash back. So, how could I resist $5,000 off MSRP on a Milennium Yellow 50th anniversary '03 Z sitting in the showroom?
I put in 70 miles of twisty roads on the way home. I took it easy, never going over about 60% of its potential. Even so, I can tell you its more of a pure driving machine than the coupe. Its more responsive, more connected to the road. Its going to be great for short blasts in the hills, but I'm not sure about long trips. Its so much more fun and nimble that I have no regrets on trading the coupe.

I do miss pulling the top off and it's harder to get all my autocross gear in the car.
In my case, since I autocross & road course, it was worth it.

No regrets here. I traded my '00 coupe (A4) for my Z06 and haven't looked back since. The coupe was nice - - no question. It was quieter, smoother, and fun, with the removeable targa top. However, I was hooked the moment I test drove my (soon-to-be) "Z." This car has a raw edge to it. It's not as quiet, not as smooth, but it's got a ton of attitude and more than enough grunt to back it up. Plus, I was just getting to the point where I was beginning to manually shift my A4, so I knew it was time to look into a manual before I broke something. Lol.
I guess it's all about what you are looking for in your vette...
