Not really, I know most guys will say to do it but unless you are racing the car just change it after 3000 miles. :steering:

I would say, go for it! Change it, within those vital breakin miles your engin is working all the parts together so there might be things in the oil that you wouldnt want, but after your inital break in oil change i would say just change it when you fell like it needs it, or by my rule at least every 3000 miles despite what the Oil life remaining says!

i would change it at between 500 - 700 miles, a recommendation given to me by the corvette museum. and since they are across a street from the factory, and their knowledge of corvette i say it only costs $50... i didn't think it was that big of deal.

Hi 427L -
I always do change the oil at 500 miles on a new engine - in my mind this is to remove the casting and machining "spoodge" from the engine.
best regards -

Probably not, but I wouldn't take the chance. Changing the oil is cheap insurance.

I have owned several sports cars and motorcycles. On every vehicle I have observed a strict break in period with gradually increasing RPMs. And on every vehicle I change the oil and filter after 500 miles, then again at 1500 then again at 3000. And then every 3000 after that. Plus don't forget to use the magnetic drain plug. Anyone who really knows mechanics will tell you that the key to long life is frequent oil changes. It is cheap insurance and assurance.

GM doesn't recommend an early first oil change, and they back the warranty, so it's probably not going to gain you anything.
Several SAE published studies over the years have indicated that new engines see plenty of small particle generation during the breaking period, though it is probably not enough to clog the filter and open the bypass valve letting unfiltered oil into the galleries.
Just the same, my recommendation is to change the filter after the first few hundred miles to 1000 miles, but leave the oil in for the full interval.
Those same SAE studies indicated that particle production is very low after breakin until end of life, the implication being that extended filter change intervals - after every second or third change is okay, but given the long oil life allowed by the Corvette monitoring system - up to 15K miles, I would recommend a filter change with every oil change.

NO Honestly, if you want to waste your money do it. People on this forum are overly ****. I have never, ever, ever had an oil burner or mechanical trouble with any of my new cars, and I have had lots. It's not cheap insurance, it's a waste of money and helps polutte our environment.

It is probably unnecessary, but I did mine at 750 miles and again at 2000 miles. It gave me a few excuses to lift the car and get under there to inspect everything under it. See here:

Hi Rick, just wanted to say I think the picture you have posted is awesome. I didn't think I really needed chrome wheels but the more I look at your Z06, I may have to get them. Very cool picture, take care.. Hank..

I did mine right around 750, and then again at 2500. Will do it from here on out when the DIC is around 25% life remaining. Just had it done last weekend at 6k.

Hi Bully -
I can save my 3k oil for you to re-use in your vette. It's perfectly good, right?
You can save a ton of $ by getting this perfectly good oil from my over-maintaining butt. Hows $2/quart sound?
I always take my waste oil to the recycler, but I can save it for 'ya.
best regards
