Default LATEST INFO ON C6/Z06

I thought you all would be interested in a conversation I had today with a friend of mine, who is very well placed in the Corvette family. As everyone knows, this years marquis model of the Corvette is the 50th Anniversary, but for year '04 my friend told me the Corvette Marketing Team will put the emphasis on the Z06. There will be, as has been rumored here before, an increase in horse power, somewhere between 450 and 475, along with additional bells and whistles as standard equipment.
Even though this first bit of information is not exactly new with all of the rumors that are flying around, I was very interested in what he had to tell me in reguards to the future C6/Z06. He indicated that , as we all have suspected, there will not be a Z06 in '05, but will come out a year later as a "06 model, with a 427 cu. in. / 555 HP engine.
The engine developer that GM has a contract with, currently has twelve of these engines running around in C5 Corvettes for testing purposes. They are experiencing some oil usage problems, but will obviously have this solved by production time.
I feel this information is very reliable, and hope it brings a smile to your face when you picture the future C6/Z06.

EDITED because I was a bit rude

No offense but everyone and their mother has an "inside source". There was the same "inside information" about the 50th coming with a 427. Everything is just speculation at this point

IF and that's a big IF that's true (427 ci and 555 hp.) I won't be able to resist the next generation Z06.
For now, I'm really loving this '03 C5 Z06. What an awesome car! I had a great time at the track on Saturday, drove there, ran 4 sessions on the track and drove home on the stock tires and brakes! :chevy

I have heard quite a few different theories or inside stories now. I will just continue to save money and believe it when I see it. Either way it won't hurt to be prepared. I would hope GM is going to do something big at least by the second model year of the C6 for the Z06.

In the October issue of Hot Rod they talk about a 6.6 motor going into the 2004 Z06 putting out about 450-475hp Its around page 30 or so where they are talking about some of GMs toys.

My guess and its only a guess is that it would be no more then 425HP if any at all. Dave Hill said (6/2002) that they have stopped development work on the motors for the C5.

Gosh this really makes me question buying a 2003 Z06. And i have been looking so diligently. Perhaps it would be smarter to wait it out until there is some hard evidence. If 2004 sees a big power increase you can expect the value of 02's and 03's to drop fast as they did with 01's. I've seen 01's with less then 1500 miles sell for high 30's now.

I once had an "inside source" that told me the 50th Anniversary Corvette was going to be a styling package--white convertibles with black tops and red interiors.

I wonder what happened to that?

I have inside info that told me they are taking the C5R engine and putting that in , also the price on the HP vette would be $25,000 MORE!! so now you will be paying around $80,000 for that Model!!
PS!! Just heard from another inside info guy that GM is giving out $30,000 Rebates and giving -25% fiancing so now the car will only cost $33.00 !!!
LOL!!!!

The 427 part is true, however the 427s running around at that "engine developer" are not for the Corvette, but rather something else, most likely sold under the Cadillac name.

IF the 427 rumor is true, I would be willing to bet that LPE might have a hand in it!!! :) :)
