Default Hi new guy with ???

I am looking to buy a Z06 2002 to 2004. What kind of power will I be able to get with everything but a S/C or NOS. We want to go track racing and those are not allowed. I'm guessing with the cars that normally show up I will have to run 150-ish in a 2000 foot straight with a ~40 to 50mph corner entrance.

Thanks
Dave

Does that mean you have 2000' of accelerating plus room to brake? Or 2000' total before you enter a corner?

If the first then you shouldnt have a hard time hitting 150's if youre entering the straight at 40+mph... but if its the latter option then no way in heck is that going to happen.

OK so i checked with my buddy who has a 2013 Zl-1 Camaro. the straight total is 2000'. The entrance speed is around 60 and it's a 300 to 400' breaking zone. He gets ~140ish. at brakes. A stock 2002 to 2004 won't keep up, i don't think, close but not quite. so how much more power/ brakes will i need to hang with him?

Thanks
Dave

I would say that you could take gearing and power to weight ratio and solve your own problem.

You probably need about as much power as your friends ZL1 to hit 150's... Youre about 1000 lbs lighter so theres your 10+ mph.

You should not race your friend, nor drive his race. YOU SHOULD RACE THE TRACK, AND DRIVE YOUR OWN RACE.

1) rotational mass is the first thing you shoudl consider losing if you are doing a Roadcourse/auto x type racing. Big sways, good coilover and a loss of unsprung weight means you can carry a higher speed through turns, which that ZL1 will never be able to do.
2)the c5 weighs a good bit less than a zl1. if you shed weight appropriately you can be as low as 2900lbs(my frc is 2976lbs w/me in it)without a driver. keep in mind that 100lbs is a .10sec in the 1/4 or an addition of roughly 40hp.
3) learn to cut a line before you even give a flying **** what other people run. A good entrance and exit through the apex of a turn allows you to maintain a ton of speed with the right tires. Ride with someone who is a good driver, not neccessarily your buddy, watch the way they enter and exit turns, when to downshift/upshift and apply gas through the apex and proper exit of a turn.

These key areas are what win races. This is why the Cx.R teams crush ****ing everyone with a lesser hp car than alot of the others on the same tracks.
