Default Tires and wheels

I have a 2003 Z06, running 19 and 20 Continentals. The fronts are 275/30/ZR19 while the rears are 305/30/ZR20. The wheels are Avus forged three piece wheels. My biggest gripe is how noisy these tires are on some road surfaces in addition to being a very hard riding tire. I'm considering increasing the aspect ratio on the rear set to 30 or maybe even 35. What problems, if any will I encounter?

wait, you're running

The fronts are 275/30/ZR19 while the rears are 305/30/ZR20
and you want to

increasing the aspect ratio on the rear set to 30 or maybe even 35
surely there is a typo?

Anyhow, increasing aspect ratio will give you a bigger sidewall, which may ride better. Probably will not change the noise level. that is a function of rubber compound and tread design mostly.

Having a taller sidewall on the 20" might bring you close to rubbing if you're lowered. Not sure, haven't run a 20 personally. Worth looking at though.

Your Right, typo, rears are 305/25/ZR20. My biggest concern is how is the taller tire going to affect the computer. I realize the speedo will be affected, but will it be enough of an issue to worry about?

if you're on the DW that's already one of the softest smoothest tires made. the michelin pss has a stiffer sidewall and is more responsive but also louder and that before mentioned sidewall

you need to be on 18/17 if you want some degree of comfort

it's absolutely not possible with your wheel sizes. there is physically so little sidewall the tire makers have to make them stiff to support the car

thanks for the reply. The tire and wheel combo looks great, but it comes at a price.

from a 25 to a 30? The difference will be negligible as you're keeping the same wheel diameter. 25 to 35? still not huge. It wouldn't hurt to compare the diameter from the stock 18 inch to a 20/35. might put your speedo off a bit.

Ultimately though, as long as the spread from front to rear isn't dramatically different I'd expect you'll be just fine.

295 25 20 is 25.8" tall

295 30 20 is 27"

295 35 20 is 28.1

no big deal at all, just a couple inches,

now finish your math and tell him how much the speedo will be effected.

I did a tire comparison between the stock 18's and my 20's and the 20's are actually a whisker shorter. The
30 sidewall is pretty close. I looked into the Michelin's and as long as the reviews aren't being written by the Michelin rep sound like a quality tire. A little pricey, but so is a corvette. I appreciate your response. I posted a pic, but I'm not real savvy on this forum yet. Maybe you are and can find it.

Hey 6speedsteve,

I just went to that link you provided and found it to be extremely useful. Thanks for that. Looks like the 30 aspect ratio will work for what I'm trying to acheive.

It's actually quite noticeable, over 1" difference from 25 to 30 aspect ratio & over 2" difference from 25 to 35 aspect ratio.
Depending upon the front size/aspect of tires it may negatively affect traction control and surely the speedo, correct me if I'm wrong
but there should be a difference of 1/4" front to rear, the front being obviously smaller in diameter.

305/25/20" = overall diameter of 26"s
305/30/20" = overall diameter of 27.2 "s
305/35/20" = overall diameter of 28.4 "s

Hey tak06, good to hear from you again. I did some comparisons of stock applications and you are correct, the rear tires are actually a bit taller than the fronts. I haven't checked any technical data yet to see what is an allowable differential. I then did a tire comparison on my current set up and the rears are almost dead even with the fronts, making them shorter than what they should be. Increasing the aspect ratio to a "30" will put me slightly over the 1/4" you pointed out. I'll do a little more research. Thanks for the input.

You don't have enough sidewall, period. That's also a very heavy setup. I'd recommend 18/19" max. These cars were not designed for 19/20" setup.
