Default Titanium Exhaust/Mufflers

after reading about the titanium exhaust, I wanted to check it out. crawling under the car, I was disappointed. What I saw looked like the typical OEM steel muffler. Should I be able to see the difference between the factory titanium and a standard steel muffler?

Should say titanium on the mufflers. They are also significantly lighter.

They are stamped "GM TITANIUM." Also the color of the material is different than steel.

Looking at them wont do them justice. I didn't realize how light they really are until I had them off of the car.

I have kooks 1 7/8 headers with the high flow cat/mid pipe with the Ti exhaust. Quiet when just cruising but does open up a bit when under WOT

Thanks for all the replies, they are titanium....just dirty. I know they don't rust..lol, but should they be cleaned with any special cleaner or treatment?

I used Mothers Mag & Aluminum polish on the tips, worked great.

is it worth giving up weight, and replacing them for a small gain in HP?

Ti mufflers have round tips, Base mufflers are more oval shaped tips, the Ti should say GM TITANIUM on the bottom as stated above. Ti mufflers will have a small power gain over base mufflers and not to mention they sound SOOOO Much better. they are good for 450-500 WHP before they start to restrict, the base mufflers are not good to that power level. I like aftermarket exhaust on most cars but my vette will only have TI mufflers, I am one who doesn't car about the weight (Its cool but not a deal breaker for me). I like the sound, Look and the fit & finish of the stock Ti mufflers.

I myself opt to remove the cat'd piping for full stainless headers and x-pipe straight into the stock Ti muffs.
