Amsoil Torque Drive Trans Fluid - now very notchy
Any one else experience this?
I thought a fluid change would either be the same as it was or smoother. I find that the shifts are more notchy and chunky than they were before the change. It was especially bad this morning when the temp was in the high 30's. When it warmed up it was better. I just feel like this fluid change did more harm than good.
Anyone try any other fluid with success?
Car has 16k miles. I have my first track event in two weeks so I'd like to get some other fluid in there.

I am not gona lie i used the same thing and noticed zero difference, plus the trans on these cars is notchy with the stock box, you need to go to a mgw or some kind of short throw

The mgw is a great shifter but it won't do much about the notchiness... at least it didn't on my car. I tried amsoil and it did not make much of a difference, but I did notice an improvement with mobile1 synthetic at. Could give that a try but some of these trans just don't like to shift when the fluid is cold.

Im running amsoil torque drive and its way smoother than the unknown brand that was in there before. .I mean its still notchy but not as bad as compared to the fluid the previous owner put in there..I think the z06 is just a notchy shifting transmission period, no matter what kind of fluid u use..I drove 4 z06"s and they all where notchy. .far from how a honda tranny shifts LOL..this is just my opinion from my experience driving 4 different z and they're all the same. .it dosnt really bother me but if there is a fluid or way to make it shift like a hot knife going thru butter then I'm all about giving it a try.

I am confused. Your Bio states that your Corvette is a 1971 C3. 1971 Vettes used M20 or M21 Muncie transmissions and those transmissions used a heavy gear oil. Why are you posting on the C5 Z06 forum?

Pumba,
I recently picked up an 02 Z06. Picked it up about a month ago and learning the ropes. I guess I haven't updated my profile yet. I did replace my M-21 oil with Amsoil synchro mesh and the results were positive. The Z has reacted the same way with the torque drive fluid

My car is an '02 with a 28000 vin #. Not sure if that makes my car early or not?

Not to sound crazy, but did you make sure you were level when you filled the tranny, just asking, I will plug mine run it through the gears and then check and top off to insure I am filled to capacity.
Easy to overlook sometimes

I was thinking this also. I didn't do anything but fill the trans until fluid came out the fill hole. I didn't mess with the gears or anything. I have to put the car back up on stands to bleed the brakes before a track day in 2 weeks. I'll check the level again since i've driven it a couple times, maybe its low?

My transmission running Amsoil is notchy until I gets warm. Once I've been driving it around a bit it becomes much smoother. As far as I can remember when I was running Mobil 1 transmission fluid it did the same thing. If you are looking for Honda like shifting out of these things I just don't think they have it.

I had started this thread back in April. I found that Amsoil didn't work well in my car. I now have Royal Purple Max ATF and it is much better. I have a gallon of redline D4 on my shelf now that was to try if the Royal Purple hadn't worked.
I read a bunch of posts and did a lot of searching on this topic. My conclusion is that there are several ATF's that people have had success with. It seems to be car to car dependent. Some like one oil while other cars like different oils.
Its trial and error until you find the one your car likes.

I tried the amsoil. And my tranny started to whine, in 5th & 6th. Went back to the factory oil. It is quieter now. But ever since, I installed the amsoil. The tranny started making noise. And even after. I went back to the factory oil. I still have the noise. And it all started after using the amsoil. I only kept it in, for about 1000 miles. But that was the worse mistake, I ever made. Before the amsoil quiet tranny. After the amsoil noisy tranny.
