the c5 z06 is a rare car
What yall think? Are they rare?It took me about 2 years to find one and when I did I had to travel 500 miles to get it.
Its not like you see them everywhere and alot of them are getting shipped off overseas to the rich arab countrys which is makeing the number of c5 z06s on the road out here in the states very low..
I have a feeling that they will be one of those cars that will be real hard to find forsale in a few more years..I know we have the c6 and c7 z06s but to me and a lot of others, the c5 z06 is going to be one of those cars that alot of people are going to want in their collections..I also need to start searching for a 98-02trans-am since they're also getting hard to find and has also been one of my favorite.
I have no plans on ever getting rid of my z06. .its just something about the body of the z06 thats so damn sexy and unique. .ive owned plenty of nice cars and this is the only one out of all the other cars ive I owned that I still get excited at just looking at it and dont see myself ever getting bored of lol..even though the interior is crappy (nothing a few upgrades cant fix)but the frc body is just so nice.i got much love for the regular c5 hatch/droptop but im glad I didn't give up my search for a z06 and settle for the non z06 version.
Sorry for babaling away..

I've had my 2002 Z06 since Sep 2001 ... bought it new. Still excites me and puts a big smile on my face every time I drive it. Can't see selling it anytime soon. It's worth way more to me than what I can get in green backs for it now.

28388 C5Z's were produced according to Wikipedia. That is not a rare car by any definition. GM doesn't really make rare cars, except perhaps the G8 GXP manual or CTS-V Wagon manual.

I use to think that 71 thru 74 Porsche 911s were everywhere (about 16,000), but after looking for one over the past year, they are way more rare/expensive then I thought they would be. And I was responsible for destroying/moding for racing 5 of them.
The real question is out of the 28000 Zs, just how many are still on the road in the USA or are legal to be registered for street use after 14 years. Even if they were all still on the road that number only averages out to 567 cars per state, and in Calif were there are 20,665,415 registered cars that dose make the C5Z rare. And in the USA 240 million reg. cars, So yea C5Z are a lot rarer then many may think.
Mark.

I did a VIN search once when I bought my used 2002 Z06. It's Millennium Yellow with the Canadian Delivery option. There were only 8 made like it. It now lives in Southern California and only has 16,000 miles. I've never seen another like it here. It seems pretty rare to me. I suppose in the final analysis, how much you can sell it for will define the "rarity" of a car.

I guess rare is a relative term. A C5Z is rare compared to a Toyota Camry, but compare it to say the Mercedes E55 AMG wagon - roughly 190 were sold in North America total. There were 150 times more C5Z's sold.

Rare are the FRC's in a box, sold via the GM parts counter. Millenium yellow with a Canadian delivery option...lol...I suppose you can say its rare, but I hope you don't equate that to a dime of increased value.
Classic example right now is the guy with the 4500.00 C4 who says, "1985 two tone brown with red interior and Z51 option...only 5 sold with this exact combination...13000 miles...don't talk to me unless you have 30k in your wallet."
The best is the guy who has the most common color produced, but when coupled with his heated seats, HUD and Z51 it all of a sudden is "rare".
Rare C5's ARE the FRC's in a box
Desirable C5's 45 yrs from now will be White 2001 Z's, 2004 Z16's, pace cars, followed by the FRC/Z06's in general.

Melting Slicks
Nail hit squarely on the head.
Find one that an enthusiast has owned, loved, pampered and repaired religiously - especially the torque tube bearings, clutch, little electrical gremlins and you'll find your purchase price is probably 50% of what has been invested in the past 3-6 years.
01s often Dyno darn close to to the 02s - up Swapping the H-Pipe seems to make it 6 to 1/2
04s have the goofy extra roof padding so tall guys = no helmets
