C7 7-speed in C5?
Is this possible? Obviously deleting the syncro-rev match. If it is I'm gonna have to keep my eye's peeled for any crashed c7's along the east coast.

Why? Some of the tests I've read say its sort of a waste in the car, when you have that much torque so many gears don't have much use. In the much less torque 911 it is a good thing....
Most of my driving is 1-3-5-6 or 2-4-6....and if your racing, you ain't ever gonna use 7th.

Do you really see the need for more gear choices in your c5z? I don't. I agree with JET, a lot of the time I end up skipping gears, not wishing there were more. If I'm not running it hard I often skip 3rd and will do a lot of 2-4 around town.

I go 1-3-5-6 most of the time
However, the 7-speed would potentially return higher fuel mileage at 80mph (most freeways here are 75 zones); other than that, the only point of the swap would seem to be the bragging rights, unless you planned to regear the rear to a 4.10+ at the same time...

That would absolutely be the way to go. The wide ratios are my least favorite thing about the Z06 compared to my previous German cars. Hardly ever shifting kind of defeats the fun of getting a manual transmission in the first place.

Same ratios, more overdrive, better mileage. More top end?
Good luck finding one.

A few random thoughts on the subject. They are going to be expensive for several years for the used units to build up in the market, until then they will come from the dealer. It will take a hell of a long time for the increased 7th gear economy to offset the cost. Top end? won't help. Our cars top speed is achieved in 5th and it slows down in 6th. Per the above quoted ratios, the gearing is the same in 6th, so it will slow down even more in 7th. Top speed will still be found in 5th. Of course, if your objective is to say "see what I did", then go for it.

Well way to fvck up a golden opportunity GM, same ****** gear spreads as before with one more OD slapped on top. Here's what I want to see: 1-4 MN6 (base) gearing, M29 5-6, this new 7th, and 3.90s. 5th is still your top speed gear on a goddamned 7 speed transmission!

You can buy a 30 spline 2013 Z06 trans for $2700 to get the tr6060
But you'll also need a new diff
C5 is 27spline and has a 5 bolt tail housing
With the C5Z currently selling at $20k or below once they hit 50k miles, the modifying of these cars has has slowed down quite a bit.

6th with 4.10s will still do over 200mph...not sure it will even work, but maybe the OP can get a good deal on the one below

Gave it to some guy named Mikey G to detail it and the next thing I know it turns up wrecked

However, it would allow a 4.10 swap for a top speed exceeding 200mph in 6th gear while retaining seventh gear for fuel economy...

Well what i was thinking is having the 7-speed taken apart and modifying the gear ratio's of say 4-5-6 to be tighter and then have 7th as a economy while possibly lengthening 1st and 2nd by 5mph and keeping 3rd as is. 6th gear topping out some where around say 205 mph. But apparently its a bit more work than i was hoping. Still though could be a potentially great mod in the future for high Hp c5's (Or just really light weight ones that are really low and streamed) and tired of their old m12's or are on a really worn out m12.

With custom gears I'd love a 7th. My car hits 7k rpm in 6th now. If I have enough power to pull a .5 7th that would be great, and if not it would put my gas mileage back up in the 20's.

Stock 3:42 rear? At 70mph I don't think I'm even at 2k rpm in 6th. You couldn't seriously have been at 7k in 6th. Please explain
