I would use some foam paper to wrap it first, then you could put some cardboard on the corners then wrap it in bubble wrap, and a sturdy box for it.

best way is to build a wooden crate, then all the usual steps to protect corners, etc.

I bought a spare top from a forum member here about five years ago. He had a friend that worked at Fedex that packaged it for him. It was placed in a bicycle box, and wrapped with bubble wrap and filled with foam peanuts. It arrived in perfect condition (OK to CA).

This is going to sound a little "trailer-trashy", but empty soda bottles make for great insulators/space fillers. When I shipped my C4 glass roof, I landed a box from a dealership body shop (it was a replacement door box, if I remember right)....that sucker was sturdy! Just make sure to fill up any empty space with some kind of filler, and pack it like nobody's business...

When I shipped my clear panel,I also used bicycle box. I had some boxes that had something shipped in it wrapped in styrofoam. I took a serrated knife to the pieces(had plenty) and whittled them down to create four corners which suspended the top inside the box in any direction.Once the top was nestled in their and duct taped/wedged firm,I sacrificed a couple old towels to protect the clear surface, and jammed it full of whatever I could find.

Worked perfectly. The only part that ever had me concerned was the latch mechanism because it kind of stuck out a bit, but it survived.

Try a large retailer (WalMart?) for the styrofoam corners from a large TV and maybe even a box. They are always putting out new units and selling the old demos without the box so...the box must be trashed...

pack it like you expect it to be air dropped to the buyers location....alternatively take it and have it packed and insured by the shipper....because if it get damaged and you pack it you are SOL....

had 2 shipped to me....both were damaged/broken.....3rd one I drove and picked up

granted in both cases the shipper half assed the packing but the shipping companies don't GAFF so pack it like your life depends on it

I recently shipped a clear top and went to FedEx. They had put it in a box that has an inner sleeve that suspended it in the packaging box fro shipping. Got to New Jersey with no problems.

I picked mine up from another Jersey guy but I always thought that if I had to ship it I would cover the front and rear edges with those foam noodles they sell for swimming pools. Then a small bicycle box inside a large bicycle box. Then insure the hell out of it.

You really ought to think about picking it up in person or dropping it off. I met a really great Corvette owner. Spent the night talking cars. I'd visit the guy even if he didn't have a roof to sell.

Some good advice. Thinking about buying one and would need to have it shipped. Sure wouldn't want anything to happen to it.
