Default Shocks - 2004 Z06 or C6 Z06?

So I've been reading about shocks and have a question....

I will be buying the 2004 shocks only because they are closest to the "right" shock for my C5 Z06 but I can get the C6 Z06 shocks for 1/2 the price. I don't really care about the price but wonder why the 2004 shocks are double the price of the C6 shocks?? Do the 2004 shocks have some sort of special valving technology that GM dropped in future years? Why the huge price difference? Which shock performs better or are they equal? Maybe I should buy the C6 shocks.

you can get 04 shocks for 450, i have never seen o6 shocks for 225

the 04s are the right shock for the c5z and have the most updated dampening curves.

i installed a set on my 02 and they are better. less corner exit sway, improved ride quality while actually being more stable at speed

very very good for a stock setup

have not tried or used the c6z shocks on a c5

You ask a good question and the short answer that I can offer is that those who have the inclination to spend twice as much for the 04's report that they are marginally better than the C6 Z shocks.
Personally, I opted for the C6 Z shocks for their performance-value and have been pleased with them for the last 4 years, on my 01 Z06.

I heard the c6z shocks raise the ride height a little. Is that true?

Springs set the ride height, not shocks.

But when you lift the car in order to change the shocks, the springs get unloaded. Then when you set the car back down, the ride height will be higher for a little while until the suspension fully settles. This phenomenon is probably what was experienced by whomever suggested that the C6Z shocks (or any others, for that matter) affect ride height.

shocks should have no effect on ride height. when i installed brand new 04s they had no effect on height at all.

the c6z shocks are something like 3/8" longer....which again shouldn't matter but the height complaints seem to be centered around this shock

not sure why

I personally bought c6z shocks. I did not notice any real difference in how the car performed vs my old shocks. Someday I want coil overs and I did not see the point in buying shocks that cost so much more when I am going to replace them with coil overs.

I'm guessing it has more to do with supply/demand than what's actually inside. I've seen this on other platforms as well.

I was in that same dilemma a few months ago...after hours and hours of reading I ended up going with the 2012 c6 z06 shocks...and I love them...car rides so much better..and even on the auto cross the car felt fully planted at all times...imo I would not waste the money on the 04 z06 shocks...I ordered mine from gmpartshouse. $254.60 plus shipping..easy to install too!

this is not the case. whats "inside" is why the 04 Z06 shocks are so valuable.

It might be a waste of money for you and others, but the 04 Z06 shocks were redesigned to maximize rear grip, lots of testing went into them. They are the best option for the money for anyone who tracks/autoxes their car.

Everything you need to know about 04 Z06 shocks is in the thread below.

Ever thought of Bilsteins?

I got a set for around $330 (it was a couple years ago, forgot exactly).

Where are you finding the 04z shocks for 450? 490 is the cheapest I can find.
