2004 fuel tank (or connector) replacement
It appears I got the famous fuel leak in my 2004 Z06. I am taking it to the dealershit to have them troubleshoot/fix the issue. I am aware of the special buliton out there that would make them cover the connector cost (and I have exteneded warrenty if that's not the only issue). My question is, whats the procedure for them? I want to know this, so I know exactly where to look to make sure they don't damage something (yeah, I do NOT trust my local dealershit AT ALL!!!). So I plan to take pics/vids while it is sitting in their parking lot, in caes they do screw something up while they are "supposed" to be fixing something.

Unless you drop the trans and fuel tanks, there is nothing to view to validate their work. The connector is at the top of the tank and not in plain sight

Are dealers still covering this issue? Or is this going to be an out of pocket expense? If its the latter I would just find a reputable Corvette shop/tuner to do the work, rather than let the knuckle-draggers at the stealership touch it.

Dealership covers it until 2014 or 100,000 miles..... So that's where it is

Take them a copy of the service bulletinin case they haven't heard of it. My dealer had not but was very helpful thereafter, replacing the fuel pump also at no extra charge. Car has been fine ever since.

Ty, they are tracking the special policy 10150 but are saying to replace the tank, my understanding was a connector connecting the 2 tanks..... Not the tank itself

My Z16 was one of the lucky ones as well...I had it fixed Dec of 2010, 100% covered by GM.
Drove to a dealer a couple of towns over to have the work done because they have the best Corvette Mech in the region...or so the rumor has it.
Best news, they can do it without dropping tranny. Only removed left rear wheel and tub on mine...I guess they had a small guy with small hands turning wrenches on her
I knew she was in good hands when I left her because they kept her in the bay with a couple of ZR-1s.

Glad to hear about the no need to drop tranny part. I think they think its my right tank.......... I have no idea, I just think they are confused and spoke before looking/testing...... end result better be 100% fixed and nothing additional wrong with the car (which they have done to me numerous times in the past).

Got it back, looked closely at the procedure to fix, and it says it could be either side. Does anyone know how I can "test" to ensure I infact no longer have a leak? Example, do our cars "pressureize" the tanks and after shutting off the car and I take the cap off, you get the psssssssssssssssssssssh from air? I just want to make sure they in fact replace the right one and I am good to go now.

Just had my 04 done thru GM I was there almost the entire time the trans does not come out. He had my tank out as well as the crossover out in a fairly short time. They also replaced the fuel pump. This tech has done quite a bit of them he stated they get easier and he learns more tricks each time.

No the dealer tech does not have to drop the trans/diff or TT to get to that and replace if he is good and has small hands. Ive done it and it can be done by feel up in there with the collars unlocking and locking them back. Ive removed both tanks with drivetrain intact on my 03 although its much easier with drivetrain out for sure. I can have drivetrain out in an hour so id rather do it that way than messing with cramped spaces with it in. And its the crossover tube itself that leaks, the tanks are usually fine.

Well, my fear came true, and the reason I started this thread. I just noticed today that on the drivers side (the tank they replaced), I noticed where the wheel well lip is cracked, obviously while trying to get the tank in or out!!! GOOD GOD PEOPLE!!! luckily I took a lot of pictures before and after of the car, no detailed close up of this, but seeing as how it's right where I had a clear bra put on last week, what pictures I do have and proof with the clear bra, THAT BETTER BE ENOUGH FOR THEM TO FIX THIS!!!

Fuel tank leak, time limit
2nd owner of 2004. (2.5 yrs now). When took it to dealer and told them about the possible leak, response was: That it is COVERED only for 10k or 10 yrs from time that it went into service. Mine was up 1 week before and they would not cover it. Has 70 k on car. Chose to wait and see if I can still get GM to cover it.
Anyone have similar issue?
