Default C5 Z06 Rebuilt title, buy or not

Looking at 2004 z06 with 42k miles completely stock. Car has rebuilt title, was a stolen recovery in 2006. Car is white on black with new tires. From pics car looks really nice. Would the rebuilt title scare you off. Can buy for less than 16k, thoughts. Love the c5, had an 01, now have a 17 GS, used to hang out with you guys on this c5 forum. Thanks for your opinions gentlemen.

So many scary thoughts about rebuilt or salvage vehicles, the worst being it may have been flooded (a swimmer). Theft recovery, wrecked? stripped? pulled from a lake? frame damage? Who fixed it? A backyard mechanic with junk parts or a proper shop with qualified mechanics? And then there's your plan, a long time keeper, track car or do you plan on selling it in a few years> Very few will take it in trade and those who will won't pay much for it. Since there is no shortage of these available I'd pass and keep looking.

If it could be verified as having a rebuilt title because of theft then it would not scare me off if I planned on driving it into the ground. If I had plans on only keeping it a short time then trading up, I would not do it for over 12k. People have a phobia about rebuilt titles. Some reasons are valid and others are ridiculous. If your budget allows a z06 with a clean title then wait for that.

I would buy it for $14K or less and take my chances.

My car (2000 C5 A4 coupe) was a theft recovery as well. I'm the 3rd owner and the car was stolen 3 months after the first owner bought it. The car wasnt stripped nor touched besides being " DE Vinned" which required pulling the windshield to do so. Car was recovered at a shipping center getting ready for a boat ride to an awaiting black market client. I guess the thief seen gone in 60 seconds way to many times and got caught ! Sure its something to think about when purchasing any car but if the car wasn't molested and in the process i wouldn't care and consider it a bargaining chip when shopping. You will be surprised how many hot cars were stolen like this back in the 90's early 2000's. You will find some nice deals but be vigilant and buy any carfax Autocheck before money is dealt. Autocheck is like $25 bucks and well worth it. Anyway I don't plan on selling my car so i could care less. Goodluck

It's had a repaint for sure. There wasn't a white 2004 Z06.

mike u r correct sir. Google:However, the rarest Z06 color is 2001’s Speedway White (RPO 40U), with only 352 total units produced;[18] while white was available on the FRC during the preceding model years (a total of 626 units produced in 1999 and 2000), 2001 was the only model year in which white was offered on a C5 Z06.
Thanks guys you are the best, i am out, don't want a keeper with non z color paint.

IMO, you made a good decision. Way too many C5s out there with no tarnished history at good prices to take a chance on that one.

Wouldn't scare me off if the price was right. As in REALLY cheap as you will be stuck with a car that may be really difficult to sell down the road.

If it were me, I would get it mechanically inspected and take to a bodyshop to see if it had collision damage and was repaired properly.

I have looked into getting salvage repaired cars in the past but the owners are usually out-to-lunch on the prices and I could get a clean one for a few thousand more that had no stories attached to it.

Where was this car for sale? There was a guy selling a "White" 2004 Z06 on facebook last week, he was clearly trying to scam ppl by not telling them its been repainted.

Sometimes when they get stolen the thief drives the **** out of it, tries to destroy it then they ditch.

In this case they wanted to resell it so it probably wasn't dogged out.

The thing is some insurance companies and lenders won't touch branded title cars which brings resale down. For this reason I think you need to buy it a little cheaper if you can.

I purchased mine at a salvage auction with engine damage. I wanted a fresh purpose built car any way and didn't want to tear into a mint one. I paid cash and my insurance (USAA) doesn't have an issue with the branded title. I plan on keeping it for life but just in case I documented the work done on it.

A rebuilt title car can be a good value if everything checks out. I think the one you are looking at should be priced more in the <$14k range.

my title is a dealer buy back title which people say is an issue but to me it isn't. I have had the car for a while and I'm ***** deep in mods so the title doesn't scare me at all. I would pull the carpet up look for water damage on the padding look under the dash for corrosion and if all looks good grab it.

Being the car was a theft recovery 11 years ago, if there were issues with the car, they have been sorted by now. Since you don't think you will keep the car forever, being a branded title and non factory color will make it more difficult to get rid of. You made a good call for your circumstances.

do your due diligence on the mechanical aspects of the car and figure offering only 50% of the retail value .....any more is too much risk. too many cars out there to take on any risk. worst they can say is yes...I mean no

$7-$8,000 with rebuilt title now that might be a deal if the C-5 was in good shape ,Properly can't or would be hard to reseal it at a later date .. If really really cheap sure other that that ,go find you a nice C-5 .. $14,000 for a C-5 with rebuilt title not a deal at all..

It is a fairly low mileage '04 Z06. Retail is over 20K. You aren't going to find one that runs and drives anywhere for 7-8K.
