OK, I just replaced mine. First, buy the actuators that have the rubber surround (I found that Riks Corvette had the best price, better than eBay) - to cut to the chase on that, they were SO much quieter when the door closed than the non-rubberized ones. Also, the re-mounting nuts are built in. Then, check your door switch for softness (you'll know) and be prepared to replace it. Above all, just buy new pigtails for both doors while you're going to that much effort. $16 bucks each and worth it. I popped open my old ones on my `82 and it looked like green mold growing. They were easy to solder, and wire colors matched up.
Then, open the black metal access plate and feel the actuator. Unbolt (or drill both rivets), and lift it to the about the 10 o'clock position and pull it out of its key slot, and electrical connector. Transfer the mounting plate to the new actuator and reinstall install the same way. While you have the door trim off, use lithium grease to lube all of the window channels/bearings and silicone spray what you can't reach with the window about half down. Test for that wonderful `pop' that the new actuator makes and reassemble. Dave

I should importantly add to my above post, You should use the opportunity to adjust the 2 window anti-rattle guides while the panels are off; and, also, I folded in a layer of duct tape around the square lock rod access hole so that the rod hits the cushioned tape instead of metal on road bumps, etc. Combined with the new actuators that are fully enveloped in black rubber, my doors sound almost like original C3 showroom new. Btw, use a nail or small screw driver as a pilot through your door panel to re-locate the small screw holes. It took me longer to re-find the silly holes (it was starting to get dark in my driveway) than it did much of the other stuff. Good luck and really glad this helped! Dave
