Local dealer still marking up $10,000
Since I got my 2001 Z06 for MSRP back in the first month of production, I have always looked around at dealerships to keep telling myself how great of a 'deal' I got (I bought mine off the forum, thanks Tom Rogers).
I thought all the crazy markups were history but I stopped by the local dealership who has 2 Z06's on the lot and was surprised to a see a $10,000 markup on both! One had just been sold too!
Oh well, capitalism doesn't work too well if your stupid.

Surely no one really pays that. Do you suppose it's done to make people feel good about getting a MSRP deal? (No flames intended)

You oughta walk in the door and yell at the top of your lungs; 'PUT DOWN THE CRACK PIPE!!!"
You gotta be kidding me.. I'll bet they're lining up in the parking lot for those kinds of deals...

Plus the MSRP has gone up nearly $2,500 since the early 2001's came out.

That's :bs. I have to agree w/ GSDreamin' about what those guys and/or customers are smokin'. Go elsewhere until you're satisfied and as some have said, "beat the dealer up a bit at the bargaining table". :smash: :smash: Someone has to give. Why should it be us?

Boy those prices seem to be a deal compared to what we have to deal with on the West Coast. I went to a local dealer and they had a 2001 coming back used with 8,000 miles. I asked how much and he said $10,000 over sticker. I said that used cars don't have stickers and he said oh well it will be $58,000. But that doesn't beat the other dealer I went to the other night. They have a nice yellow 2002. I seen that they had a nice final sticker after the Northwest Adjustment of $73,000. WHAT! They guy said that they just sold a red one for that price last week and I know that they had two 2001's in black that were no where in sight. In fact I tried to buy one of the black ones and they said they would budge off of that sticker and it had a $16,000 mark-up. This should be illegal. Isn't this in the scalping tickets category? Ferrari is complaining that people are buying their cars just to sell them for a profit. No where in that article did it say anything about their own dealers selling new Ferraris for anywhere between $100,000-$150,000 over sticker. I went to a Ferrari dealer looking at new 360's. They had one sitting there for $137,000. This was when they just came out and hadn't caught on yet. A year later the same car was back at the dealer for sale again. It had 3,000 miles and so I figured that now it should be around $120,000. WRONG! The salesman said that it was $235,000. Almost $100,000 more than when it was new. Sorry for rambling on but this is rediculas. When was dealer mark-ups considered the norm? This was none existant 10 years ago. I know dealers that have markups on everything, $2500 on a Beetle. Stupid.

I have noticed that here in the Denver area prices are increasing on the 2001s.
They are very hard to find. During the summer, there were quite a few used
2001s for sale in the low to mid forties. Last week, there was one listed in
the Denver Post for 48,000+ and it had 14,000 miles. This week there are
none listed in the Post.

People are just crazy to buy at those inflated prices!! :yesnod: However, it might be a good indicator of how much we could/should/would get from the dealers if we trade them in on C6's (yeah, right )

90% of what a dealer tells you is pure :bs and the other 10% is a lie. I have been lied to so many times that it is funny to hear their next line (GM won't let us sell below MSRP, there is a line of people waiting to buy this car and on and on). I don't want to **** anyone off but if you pay more than $500- $1000 over dealer invoice (not MSRP) you are paying way too much.Just make the offer and if they don't accept it keep looking. You may have to go out of state but if you're going to save $5000 - $10,000 it's worth it.

Yeah that was Curt Warner. Did you trade in a Pewter Roadster? The salesman that told me the price on the yellow one said that the Pewter car was traded in on a Red Z06. Do you mind saying what they were asking for your car and what you gave for it?

John Elway Chevrolet (Autonation) has one in Denver on their web site at $5000 over invoice.
Call Bob Benedix(aka Corvetteseller) at Bill Estes Chevrolet, they will treat you with respect.

I traded my 1999 C5 convertible, 6spd, pewter with K&N, modified airbox, B&M ripper & Corsa Indy exhaust etc. It was a fully loaded car with 22000 miles, magnesium wheels, adaptive suspension etc, etc, etc. I got $36k trade but paid ~$56k for the '02 Z06. That was ok with me as I was offered a similar '02 Z06 at MSRP but was only offered $32k on trade - however it was a couple of thousand miles away. I have no idea what they are asking for my old car - it is a monster sounding vette that was faultless.
Although I did pay more than perhaps people here claim to pay, I did get 0% and it's in my garage!! Given the free money and the similar outrageous mark-ups from all of the Oregon dealers I went to that actually had cars, I was happy enough with the deal.
I got the car straight off the truck - yup, I was the one who got called immediately that the dealer received it one Friday lunchtime and took it still wrapped in film. ;) Maybe they think that because I took mine so quickly that they didn't charge enough? They're idiots if they think that. I'm sure you can do a deal with them at MSRP plus a few $k. I don't know of anyone in the NW who is offering anything like the types of deals that others seem to find in other parts of the country that obviously get more Z06's. The only other dealer who had a car was Tonkin in Portland. They wanted even more so I told them to stick it.
I had been trying to consign my '99 C5 convertible for quite some time so this was a great way to trade for me.
However, $73k? That's why the car has been sitting in their showroom for the last two months - they got it after the good financing ran out and at the price they are asking, assuming it's $73k, it'll be there for SOME TIME!!
I originally wanted a millenium yellow/red interior car but nobody had one that I could actually buy back in October. :nonod:

Re: Local dealer still marking up $10,000 (gwelland@Home.com)
I am kind of surprised with the way they have been lately. I bought a '98 coupe there last February for a good price. The earlier color of Mag Red, nice with only 16,000 miles for $29,000. They were asking $43,000. So then about six months later I decided that the auto had to go so I went up there and they had a white 6-sp with 28,000 miles and really no options. Mine by then had about the same miles but mine was a better color and had alot of options. Well you know dealers, there is no straight across trades, so I figured a couple grand and my car. They told me to bring in $9,000 and my car. Yeah right. It took them quite awhile to sell that car. Which reminds me of another story. A week before I bought that Corvette I went to Northwest Investment cars and looked at a '95 Viper coupe. The only thing it had going for it was that it was yellow. It had 28,000 miles and was kind of rough. Anyway the would budge off the $54,000 price. I figured that it was worth about $40,000. They said maybe if it was red but this is yellow. Well I can pay any body shop less than $14,000 for a repaint on a red car. I tried to do a deal with them anyway and they wouldn't go anywhere near what I wanted on my trade in. They told me that this car is candy at their dealership and that they weren't coming down on the price because they will have someone come in next week and pay the $54,000. Well that was last Feb. and they still have it, I think the price is now $48,000 though. Stupid dealers think what they have is gold, until you buy it and want to trade it back in.
