Why does the Z06 have a different turning radius & track?
Perusing the latest Corvette Quarterly I was reading the specs on the ’02 Z vs. the coupe/convertible:
Turns, lock-to-lock: 2.66 (coupe/conv.), 2.46 (Z06)
Turning diameter, curb-to-curb: 39.4 (coupe/conv.), 42.3 (Z06)
And also:
Track (front/rear): 61.9 in./62.0 in. (coupe/conv), 62.4 in/62.6 (Z06)
Why are these different? (the steering ratio is the same for both at 16.1:1) Is there a limit on the amount of steering input the Z allows so that the larger tires don’t rub? (fewer turns lock-to-lock and a larger turning diameter). Is the track increase just the wheels and tires or are there other suspension piece changes?

As stated the difference in track is due to wheel offset. The wider wheels/tires also require different steering stops which limit Z06 angular wheel travel to a lesser amount than other C5s. This would explain both the larger turning radius and less "lock to lock" steering wheel turns.

The 2002 has a 2.5 foot tighter turning radius than the 01 Z06 FYI

Need a shorter turning radius?
Just blip the throttle, drop the clutch, and give the steering wheel and sharp yank one or the other. ;)
