Default Rat/Show Vette, ever seen one....

I went to a local Hot Rod Night here every Friday night in Concord Calif. I saw this beautiful looking Vette (not a C5 but still beautiful), but as I approached it, I noticed the back half was rusted and worn out looking... the guy did it with intent, he was showing what he started with and where he ended up with. It's kinda cool, surely different, anyway enjoy it. It is a different thing to see for sure....

PS : I was starting a collection fund to give him to finished the job..... we had a good laugh on the whole thing...

Not sure why you would go to all the trouble to get 3/4 of the car done and leave the back section. If you want to show what you started with and what you ended up with, do it with a nice book of start to finish photo's.

It's the new fad for car shows. The last Dallas Autorama had an entire section devoted to cars restored, but intentionally made to look like rusted out hunks of junk.

If he'd take $30,000 for it, I'd buy it and finish the job. I love C1's.

I've seen pictures of that car before from car show shots.

Hopefully that is what the rear end looked like, otherwise he spent an awful lot of time replicating 'rust spots' on a fiberglass body

I have not seen anything like that in the Tampa Bay area, at least not something that is partially restored. We have Rat Rods, but they look bad from nose to tail and that is expected in a Rat Rod.

Frick is that cool! I mean, I would never do that or own a car like that but to see someone else do it is very neat! Great job on blending the look. I still wouldn't do it, but I like that someone else did.

I don't get it. It's not like you restore a car a little at a time, from front to back.

After talking to the guy, I now understood the was just making a statement, there is a binder he puts out for all to thumb through to view the process to get from where he found the vette to the vette you see today. Yes, I wouldn't do it to a car I own, but that is what I love about these guys, someone did so we can see and talk about it. The front half is done very very well, great paint and just looks great, and no those aren't rust spots just primer spots showing.. It is different.. If I had the extra money, I'd buy it and ask him to finish it off the right way and paint the whole thing..

It depends on the owner. Some go with the full rusted-out look and others do just like this guy did.

I think this qualifies as a Rat/Show Vette if I ever saw one....this guy just hasn't gotten around to the "after" - just the "before"!

Fad or not, I just can't get around this concept. Finish the job or find it a good home where someone will.

I'll say again what I said the first time I came across this "thinking outside the box" car. Two words...can you say DISPOSABLE INCOME.

BTW, I think it is very . It shows first hand what it takes to go from trash to treasure. I'm sure, to some degree, that is what the owner had in mind. And if I had more money than 1% of Bill Gates' net worth I'd leave it just the way it is.

Definitely a conversational piece of art.

That is a 56 or57 and the owner has more money than brains!
in my opinion, that is the most beautiful Corvette wever built and it makes me sick to see what he's done to it.

Well, he could have just left it ALL in original condition.....total rat.

It's certainly not what I would do but there is no actual harm to the car. I think it's important to remember it is a CAR SHOW and this is absolutely an attention-gitter and conversation piece.

I think it's pretty clever actually. Tasteful?....no.....clever?....yes

A guy brought a '58 to the marina a few years ago that looked to be a barn find. It was a real time capsule of what a teenager would have been driving in the early sixties. I have to say it had appeal. I couldn't keep my eyes off of it.
