Broken Valve spring, round #2
My car has seen the flatbed for the second time, last fall intake #5 valve spring broke, last night #8 intake valve spring broke, Rush hour traffic Downtown.
I was quite upset when I was told it was another spring broken, and my dealer service manager told me that although GM wouldn't come out and say it WAS a bad bunch of springs, they said that their Data base shows that in the time frame that my car was built there have been a number of issues with broken springs. Indicating that there probably was a shipment of weak valve springs in that time period.
They are going to replace out all 16 valve springs under warranty. Has anyone else here on the forum gone through this?

I've heard of things like this yes, sound like your dealer is shooting you straight.
Heck if I was you I would purchase some aftermarket springs yourself and then tell them to install them under warranty for you.

EDIT: I should add car is all street use, no heavy racing, although I like to get on it now and then

Reason I mention this is that when one part of a set fails, it is cheap insurance to replace the set rather than just the one that failed. That is what my dealer did on that rocker arm.
In 03QuicksilverZ06's case, it appears his dealer originally replaced just the one valve spring that failed, rather than the set. Result was a second failure. So, as in the case on my 01, his 03 had a set of bad valve springs.
With all due respect to CoolShoesWalkin, I would NOT install non-stock springs. Doing so would obscure responsibility in the future should another part in the heads fail. Keeping those parts stock preserves clarity on the warranty.
In sum, if the dealer replaces ALL the springs with a new set, the engine should be fine again.

I have a C6Z06 on order. I suspect after accumulating seat time and 40 passes or so, some owner will manage to get the new Z06 to run 11.25-11.35 bone stock on stock tires. With sticky tires I think someone will drop it into the 10.9s. By next spring, I suspect several owners and guest drivers will accomplish those times.
We'll see.

02 Z06 broken valve springs
"8 intake broke yesterday.
"6 intake broke a two months ago.
Both times, sitting at a stop light, daily commute.
Installing Manley dual springs, seats, titanium retainers, and hardened push rods today.

Pretty extraordinary. Never read anything even approaching that experience on a stock Z06. So something tells me there is more to the story....
Is the engine stock? Do you know the history of the car?

They are going to replace out all 16 valve springs under warranty. Has anyone else here on the forum gone through this?

A year ago I broke 2 at the same time. Sitting at an idle it just quit. Still had warranty, so the dealer replaced the 2, I wanted all 16 replaced, they said no-no. Now they are sitting on the bench with the new cam installed, glad they are all out. Happened at 35000 miles.

I have a 2002 Z06 with 41,000 miles and it happened to me also. It happenned with # 5 spring valve. This happened when the car had 39,000 miles. The dealership replaced it at no charge, they said it was probably a bad batch. I am very concerned with the rest of the springs.

In my 2002 Z06 when #5 spring valve broke, it made me wondered. If this would have happened when the car has 55 or 60,000 miles the dealership would attributed to "wear & tear"......something to think about........and keep and eye on.
