Default need to add antifreeze to my '04 Z, do i mix 50/50 w/water?

For some reason I'm about 50% low, car only has 6K miles on it. Manual says to mix 50/50 w/water. Is this correct? What kind of water? Presume purified drinking water. It's been so long since I had to add antifreeze to a Vette, my last C5 I didn't lose a drop and had the system completely flushed every so often.

Any brand recommendations?

Thanks for the tips.

Make sure you use Dex-Cool type. Prestone and Havoline make Dex-Cool that is compatible with the original factory fill. Do not use the earlier green colored types or you are headed for problems.

You should never use 100% water or 100% antifreeze. The 50/50 mix gives you not only freeze protection to -34 below zero, but also raises the boiling point of the coolant to 265 deg F.
Ideally, you should use de-ionized water, but I am not sure if Prestone still markets it. The deionization and demineralization removes anions and cations that can reduce the effectiveness of the corrosion inhibitors in the antifreeze and create water deposits and scale buildup.
In place of DI water, I use distilled water (not spring water).
When I add coolant, I always add a 50/50 mixture to keep the whole system balanced. As mentioned above, always use the Texaco brand Dex-Cool so the coolant will be compatible with the metals in the cooling system.

50/50 is already mixed,it has water in it.I think you can buy the red antifreeze pre-mixed,if not buy a good brand like mentioned in the previous posts and mix with distilled water.

There is some Green anti freeze which is compatable and meets all of the specs of the Dex A Cool. Our local parts store, O'Reilly's has it. Threw me for a loop when I looked at it. I stick with the premixed orange Dex A Cool.
Check your overflow cap to ensure it is tight. My dealer forgot to tighten the one on our SSR, we lost about 1/2 gallon of anti freeze. Luckily it was in the garage and I noticed it bubling over. When I picked up the Z06 from the same dealer, the car didn't leave the lot until everything was checked over on it.

Use extended life type antifreeze. It will be red or pink.

You do not need to add water.
