Default "Service Vehicle Soon" display on DIC

Back in September I got this message on my DIC, but no check engine light. I reset it, and it did not show up again until a couple of days ago. I reset it again and it hasn't shown up yet. What does this mean? The oil life is nowhere near zero or anything. Is this something GM programs to come on from time to time so their dealers can make money by getting you to make an unnecessary appointment for service?

I had the "Service Vehicle Soon" message on my 99 Coupe. It had something to do with the steering wheel, not being aligned within 8 degrees of the steering box. A simple wheel alignment solved the problem. I took my car to Corvettes of Houston, and they did a computer scan on the car, that was all they could find wrong with it.

But if mine had that problem wouldn't the message show up on my DIC a lot more often than just twice in the last 8500 miles?

I was getting the same message and it turned out to be the steering wheel position sensor.

I've gotten that myself in the past. I took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong.

I got the same problem and ignored it until I had my car in the shop to have the wheel bearings replaced and they checked for codes and found that the problem was one of my steering wheel position sensors. Very expensive to replace if you are not on extended warranty.

Have you checked the codes yourself? You didn't mention if you did or not. (FYI: https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...D=26&TopicID=1)

I tried that method of checking my codes once, and nothing happened.

I have the same SVS message and the code for the Steering Wheel Position Sensor. There is a test to perform which requiresd the use of a OBDII scan in the 'measure' mode. Attach to the vehicle and turn the wheel. The meaured volts should be ~ 2.5 vDC.

I haven't had the chnace do perform the check yet, but the message coupled with a slight pull under braking MAY indicate the front end needs an alignment. Thanks for the thought.

My stock 2003 has 150,000 miles. I started seeing the same message. It kept popping up randomly. No other idiot lights. No codes. I think I know why I'm getting the message but haven't proven it yet. My oil pressure sending unit has gone crazy. The oil pressure gage is swinging wildly from zero to max pressure and back to zero. I know the sending unit is bad and I have a new one on order. It will be the second sending unit after the original. The message started showing up about the time the gage started swinging from zero to max. Somehow, the ECM sees the gage going bonkers and then posts the message "service vehicle soon" message.
FYI...the actual oil pressure and quantity are normal.
