Can a STOCK C5 get 1.00 lateral G?
With the F55 suspension on sport mode and if you get rid of the runflats and upgrade to a better tire. Can you turn 1G? Or are other mods required?

I'd think the Z06 suspension would be your best bet for accomplishing that. I guess there's only one way to find out.

This is a pretty good suspension article:

BFG ran an ad last year in which a G-Force TA-equipped C5 with coilovers did 1.05 gs. Hard to say how much of the improvement was the tires vs. the coilovers, but in extreme cornering, the transfer of energy through the stock, transverse leaf springs may be an issue.

It's tires and track surface. Stick a set of R-compound tires on a decent surface and 1.0 g is easily within the reach of a stock C5. IMO, lateral g is also about the most useless stat out there, from a handling standpoint.
You're never in a competitive turn long enough for things to get to a steady state, things are always transient.
Have a good one,
Mike

Just change the tires into a more aggressive tread pattern and stickier compound and you will get your 1.0g. I had seen it on Road and Track where they equipped a coupe with BFG KDWs and successfully did 1g on their skid pad.
Lesser cars than ours can pull 1 G lateral by just changing to better tires and some stiffer springs (mine was an eclipse gsx with bridgestone Potenzas S02s).

:iagree:
You would need sticky tires to do so, Street tires may not have the grip. and dont eat any spice foods before you try it. :U

From racing stand point – I may agree with you. :yesnod:
On the street, however, lateral G says how hard/fast you can take that corner/on ramp :reddevil, so I think it’s got merit.

So Mike, Hi! So, not to hijack your debate, but...
Does anybody have a metric (a work term) for transitions? I know some road tests measure slalom speed, but how do we improve and/or measure transitions? (yeah, yeah, track time...)
I used to be in the "lateral g" camp but I see your point about transitions. So will my new Z06 size tires and Z06 anti-sway bars/shocks improve transitions or just lateral gs?

<engage engineer-speak> Trying to qualitatively measure something as dynamic as a turn is not a trivial exercise.
<now back to our regular gear-head speak>
Shocks are obviously the biggest single item to handle the various bumps in the road. Sways help by keeping the car's c.g. as low as possible in a turn (the more body lean you get, the higher the c.g. moves), but too stiff a sway bar will start upsetting things as you hit a bump in the surface. Look at an IRL, Champ, or F1 car; they're so stiffly sprung you can barely see the suspension move, and that's only under a close up shot. They also run on tracks that are super smooth (except for the curbs), and look what happens when they hit a "bump"; the car bottoms out, the driver's head rattles back and forth, etc.
So, for a car running on our type of tracks (parking lots, mainly), you need a compromise. You need enough compliance to handle the bumps in the pavement, but not so soft that the car has excessive nose dive under braking, body roll in the turns, etc.
BTW, want to join us out at Mineral Wells on the 22nd? Toss me an email for more details.
See 'ya,
Mike

Re: Can a STOCK C5 get 1.00 lateral G? (GTB/ZR-1)
Heck yeah it could. My 1997 Dodge Neon ACR just pulled 1.04gs on the skidpad yesterday. On Falken Azenis Sport Street tires. No kidding. A guy there in a turbo RX7 pulled about the same number on all season radials.
