Re: 1st oil change now knocking (lowprofiling)
I have an 01, and whenever I had the oil changed, I would hear what I thought was valve train noisie. It would be less if If I would put in slightly more oil but it didn't cure the problem. As it turns out, it was piston slap which didn't go away.
My car has the engine out right now. GMPP is changing out the pistons.
My advice document the problem with your local Chevy Dealer and march on.

AUDIBLE SPARK KNOCK (DETONATION) MIL ILLUMINATED
Technical Service Bulletin 02-06-04-023 dated 05/01/02
If you have DTC P0332 set ( replace rear bank knock sensor and rtv area around sensor) This applies to 1998-2002 Camaro, Corvette, and Firebird with 5.7L engine (vin G – RPO LS1)
You may want to check this. Hope that is all it is. :steering:

Re: 1st oil change now knocking (BHP)
Oil pressure seems to be around the middle of the guage, 35-45 psi'ish. Also, I don't see how an engine could instantly develope piston slap just because you changed the oil..

Snake Slayer had it right, in the LS1's they don't have skirts on the pistons
anymore and you are hearing piston slap until it warms up.

I agree with the above, and it's a cheap check. Change the filter, the motor may be starving for oil on startup. What filter brand was installed? If the only change that caused the problem was an oil change, and the same oil was used, I would be very suspicious of the oil filter. Normal pressure doesn't mean normal flow.

There is a tech Bulletin -- 02-08-01-038, which states that you may hear an engine tick noise. The Bulletin says it may be diagnosed as a collapsed lifter. However, the bulletin goes on says its is the O-Ring seal between the oil pump and oil pump screen causing aeration of the oil.

Re: I Don't trust nobody......
Sorry about your problem-We are all just guessing since it appears neither yourself nor anyone responsible actually witnessed exactly the chain of events. Have them change again -use GM filter but any Synthentic oil meeting GM Spec is OK and 5 or 10w -30 in Atlanta is also fine. If problem persists you need to find a good GM dealer in your area to fix if under warrenty.
Get Geo. Thurogood's song "I don't trust nobody when it comes to my girl" Not my brother, ect. nor the PRESIDENT. Play this song 100 times till it burns in your brain!
I dropped my car off at a local dealer close to me last year (just to check for any water damage after a hard rain)AND THEY LOST MY CAR FOR 2 DAYS!..it's a long story. Now even if I don't change myself I go with the car and eyball every step at the Valvoline shop. They will let you stay right with the car and I Nitpick every step including how tight to replace plug, ect.
If a shop balks at this spend your money somewhere else!
