Default Leaking transmission... What can I do?

Hello everyone, I have not been on this forum for a long time, I've been out of the country. Now I am back and when I took my baby out of the garage I found out that its transmission is leaking. I have manual transmission and the leaking looks to be from the seal where transmission joins rear diff. I have been told that it is at least 15 hours of work. I don't have these kind of money now to spend on a leak repair. Is there any simple additive that would be compliant with Dexron III that would stop the leakage?
I tried to silicon it, but no result.
Thanks.

If it is just the seal it shouldnt be that big of deal...take it to a reputable shop and have them look at it

15 hours is way too much. It sounds like the output shaft seal, and should only be about a 4 to maximum six hour job. The output shaft seal is only about $16.00.
find a better (honest) shop.

Hey Dude!! glad to have you back!! :blueangel: If in fact the seal is bad, no additive will fix it for you. I hope you can get your car back on the road soon. :)

VR

Its a super common problem, and what I do is just keep the transmission topped up with fluid by filling it every 10,000 miles. It doesnt leak that much, but its enough to keep that area right where the tranny and diff mount together constantly coated.

Next time I have it all out for a clutch job, I'll have the seal replaced then. Until then I just live with it, no biggie.

Hey Steve, great to see that you are still around.
How is it going? Did you get your vette up to 700 HPs by now
;) ?
Are you planning on putting an order for the C6 or you are going to mod your rdstr to 1000HP?

Yep, I am still around! :D I have a new LS6 engine that puts out 668 rwhp. I know it sounds crazy.. but I have enough HP now. :blueangel: I have to get a drivetrain that will hold up to that kind of power. :smash:

VR

Remember Bob? He had his Mustang stolen a few months back. They found it completely stripped. :nonod:

Well, you for sure don't need a new car... I bet once you put everything together in your vette it will be one mean machine that will beat any future Z06s or Vipers or even Lambos... :smash:
