Default Documented Hydrolock Cases with Vararam V1b?

Just curious, has anyone actually hydrolocked with the Vararam? I know we worry about it (for obvious reasons), but after searching the archives I've only seen cases of hydrolock with the Vortex and Halltech systems.

I'm considering swapping out my Blackwing for the Vararam, but the car is a daily driver, including the rainy days.

I really dont see how you could hydrolock with the Vararam OR the Vortex unless you are driving through a flood.

The day I had mine installed I drove 227 miles home in the rain and had no problems at all. The worst storm my car has ever been in I had the Vortex and had to drive 40mph because I could not see the hwy and I had no problems.

No problems here and I've driven through near monsoons. Every case of hydrolock I've heard of has been "my brother's friend's cousin's uncle's next door neighbor's ex-wife's new boyfriend's" story.

It isn't the rain that will get ya, it's that standing puddle of water you didn't see. :cry

:iagree: Even the VR sites guarantees that rain will not cause an issue. No mention of standing water.....can't say I blame them because a pond or lake is standing water.

Drive through a deep enough puddle and any car will hydro-lock. I have never heard of a Vararam instance yet though.

:iagree:

Just installed the Vararam over the weekend. My feeling is that no amount of falling rain or road spray will hurt it, and if you are driving through water that is up over your front bumper, you may have worse worries than hydrolock.

Even if you hydrolock, its not a big deal. Removed all the spark plugs and crank the engine for several times so that the water "spits" out through the plug holes, afterwards squirt some gas in there and do the same just to clean up. I've done it twice.

Not a vararam- I had a vortex and had hydrolock happen to me (actual first hand experience!). Needed a new engine. They're right. Its not rain that gets you. It the standing water, especially at night when you cant see it that'll kill you. I think it was like 6"-8" of water that did mine in.

Darkness: I'd call hydrolock more than a "little" problem...lol.

Can anyone outline what is new in the V1b vs the older models? Is there more hydrolock protection?

George...
If you're thinking of Edgar, better retract the statement, because Edgar uses the ProFlow which is a Vortex clone.

If you DO infact know of someone who got hydrolocked with the Vararam, then I apologize.

I for one, on this board for 5 yrs now, have NOT heard of anyone getting hydrolocked with the Vararam in its 2 yrs on the market...

it really depends how much water you get in there and how quick you notice it. if you hydrolock while running more then likely you will not it shut it down fast enough to prevent damage. Water doesnt compress but rods do bend..
