Default *UPDATE* LAPD 218 cam + LAPD Dyno tune = WOW!

Dyno Day update: LAPD had a fun gathering of Forum members showing off their C5's on Saturday March 13th. I took the opportunity to have a tuning tweak made to correct some WOT ping, and then re-dyno my "LAPD 218 cammed" Vert. The result was 367HP and 358 Lb/Ft TQ!. That is no less than 57HP and 37Lb/Ft TQ increase (see original post below). The weather in Chatsworth was even hotter than during my original tune. It was great meeting the other Forum members and eating the free pizza....Thanks LAPD!

******** Original Post **********
I haven't posted much on the Forum, but I've been visiting here for almost two years. I have purchased several items from Shawn at LAPD since 2002, and I think most people will agree he offers great products for our C5 Corvettes. I dyno tested my stock 2001 Vert in November 2002 with only the following mods: Blackwing, Magnaflow X-Pipe, Corsa Mufflers. The results were 310 HP/321 LB-FT torque, which seems to be pretty normal for a stock programmed 2001 (LS1) M6. Last Thursday I completed the installation of a new custom performance grind that Al at LAPD calls the LAPD 218 Cam. The specs are 218/218 @114 LSA, 558/558 lift. This cam has spring friendly ramps, and should pass emissions :-), which is important to me. Anyway, this year LAPD expanded the business to include performance and dyno services, so I called Al last Friday about a dyno tune and he said come on down. The end results were 360 HP/355 LB-FT torque. The only additions over the original 310 HP dyno were: LAPD 218 cam, B&B shorty headers (I know, I know) along with Comp 918 springs, Yella Terra 1.7 rockers, and LAPD billet gas pedal. That is 50 HP and 35 LB/FT gain for a cam swap with small diameter shorty headers and tuning! This cam has decent torque for a mild grind, but is pretty lopey and would barely idle before I got it tuned. All I can say is Shawn has assembled a great team of people at LAPD, and their tuner is highly skilled in the art of tuning. LAPDs tuner took the time needed to get to get the best power over the entire rpm range(15 HP/10 LB-FT peak over new cam with stock tune). Ill try to post the dyno graphs once I get them on the computer :hurray:

Stan

Nice numbers! I wouldn't have expected that cam to have much lope.

I am using that cam in the 361 that I am putting together for use with my blower. From the numbers that you posted it ought to work nicely in my application too.

I'll bet the billet gas pedal was 30HP of the gain.

The gas pedal IS the most important aspect of a performance tuned car

:smash: How long did they have the car for the install?
Shawn if your monitoring this I had 323 HP, after you installed the exhaust system. Would I have the same ratio at the other end if you do the same mods on mine? ( 373 HP ) + Billet Gas Pedal :steering:

NICE! I have the same cam with Stage II heads and long tubes. Love it. No lope with mine, sounds almost stock. It does shake a little at idle. And yes, it does pass emissions.
