What does it cost to get Z06 performance?
Need some opinions on how to spend $1000 to $1500 on mods for a 2004 C5 vert, six speed.
What are the best mods in this price range that will NOT screw up the warranty?
I'm not particularly handy with a wrench, so mods would probably need to be done by a shop (north of Detroit) unless they were very simple.
thanks

Welcome to the forum!
This is a short list of what you would need to do to make your car perform like a Z06.
Engine:
1: Set of Z06 titanium mufflers.
2: Set of long tube headers.
3: 224/224 114 lsa cam, springs, and retainers.
4: Hi flow intake.
5: LS1Edit to change rev limiter to 6500rpm
Suspension:
1. Z06 Shocks.
2. Z06 Springs - front and rear.
3: Z06 sway bars - front and rear.
Tires and Wheels:
1: Set of Z06 Alloy wheels - 17x9.5 front 18x10.5 rear
2: Set of Goodyear F1 Supercar tires for above wheels.
Transmission:
1: Z06 Clutch
2: M12 Transmission
Misc:
1: Rear brake ducts
2: You would have to remove about 100lbs of weight in addition to the titanium mufflers.
It looks like you are in for about a $12,000 conversion and only one or 2 of the items won't void your warranty. I wouldn't woory too much about competing with Z06's in a C5 vert. Verts are extremely  . You get to put your top down in the summer. A Z06 can't. :D Check with your dealer about an aftermarket exhaust. I got a Corsa Pace car exhaust and a Corsa xpipe for my car installed by the dealer and they were GM certified. That will cost you about what you want to spend and even though your car won't have the performance of a Z06, it will sound better.
Good luck wi th the vert!

About the only thing a 1 to 1.5 k will get is intake and cat backs.
To run with a Z06 you'll need what they have .
Better heads and cam and exhaust

Your best bet to keep the warranty in tact is to get the LS6 cam and the LS6 heads IMO. These are very undetectable in the shop.

I have a C-5 vert too bad you can't get the Z06 motor as an optional motor for the verts.
I would suggest getting a 2003-2003 and save some cashflow for mods but for your 1-1.5K might as well just drop in a nice cam package.
I personally went with a 99 couple yrs ago and put in a nice 470 rhp motor and if I had to do it over today I would get a 2002 vert and put in a turbo.
well good luck and enjoy your vert.

Can't be done. Not for 1500.00. Also if you are concerned about the warranty, forget about heavily modding your car. I have heard that changing to 3.73 gears in a MN6 will make it perform like the Z06s MN12 .
Also virrtually anything you do beyond very basic bolt ons, such as exhaust, air filters and probably headers, could, and likely will void your drivetrain warranty.
This is to a large extent, what has held me back from changing gears and torque converter My car is an A4 and I bought the extended warranty with it 5 years 50k miles. If my tranny goes at 40k miles, inside of 5 years, not only have I paid for a warrranty which is worthless, throw in the price for the modifications, and the price for a new tranny out of my pocket and you will understad my original statement.

Get some 4.10 gears ( if manual ) and a good intake ( Blackwing or Vararam) and you should be close then later when you save up a bit more get headers.

So do engine mods only violate the powertrain warranty or the whole bumper to bumper warranty?

If you want to come close to Z06 performance, you will have to spend some money!

Re: What does it cost to get Z06 performance? (Overkill)
Powertrain. If the mods cannot be shown to be part of the problem then they can't refuse to fix that part of the car. They can't refuse to fix the power windows if you have an aftermarket clutch or torque converter, if the car is in waranty.
They can, however, refuse to fix anything in the drivetrain if there have been any engine, tranny or differential modifications. And 3.42 gears will do it in an automatic. They could argue that the 3.42 in the automatic, or lower gears (higher number) were never meant to be put in the car and that this is the reason for a specific failure.
Likewise, if you bust the tranny or the rear end and they discover you have nitrous or engine mods capable of producing 600bhp, and a non stock program to run those mods, then good luck getting a new tranny or new differential or half shafts under warranty.

Re: What does it cost to get Z06 performance? (abigfoot)
sell yours and buy a Z  Its the only way to go.
To stay in the area you listed <$1500.00 you could install the Pro LG LT Header System that with tuning will add up to 40rwhp/rwtq. I gained 39rwhp w/tuning. A stock 2003 Z06 has around 350rwhp, so you could add the Vararam or BPP Vortex Intake System with the Pro LG LT Header System and be at or close to 350rwhp. Check my homepage for all my mods.

Re: What does it cost to get Z06 performance? (Overkill)
Call WCC and there package with all the bolt ons without the head cam. Thats what I have and I know someone who has a Z06 and they drove my C5 and said it seemed a lot faster than his Z06.

All your gonna really be able to buy with $1500 is a cat back and an intake. Or you could just buy a set of headers and nothing else.
