Default {DFW} Check Engine Light On

Guys I purchased a used set of FLP headers from a friend a few weeks back and had them installed. Everything went great but the last couple of days the Check Engine light is on and stays on. I looked in the manual and it says various things such as making sure the gas cap is on tight ect. ect. I don't have the O2 sims on the back. I'm sure this is whats causing my problem. The car lurches during acceleration in first and second gear. Is there anyone local that can turn these O2 sensors off for me? Or should I get the simms, or should I just go and get an LS edit. Thanks for your suggextions ahead of time :)

Don't assume anything until you check the codes.

You can acess the codes by holding the options button down and pressing the fuel button 4 times. Jot down the PCM codes and you can then reset them to kill the check engine light.

Based on the fact the car isn't running right, I would guess your problem is not with the rear 02 sensors, which is what the sims would eliminate. All the rear 02s do is give the PCM a yes/no confirmation that the cats are functioning. They will not affect how the car runs. The front 02 sensors WILL affect how the car runs however, and a problem with these must be looked into and repaired, there is no such thing as sims for these.

Pull the codes first and post em here so we can at least determine where the problem might be.

I'll be in Fort Worth/Dallas tomorrow for work. If I can find the correct usb adaptor for my new laptop/EFILive, we could scan your car and see where the problem lies.

I have been running FLP headers on my car for almost a year now with no problems, are you running the cats or off-road pipes?
You only need the simms if you are running without cats and judging by the way you said the car ran ok for a while before the check engine light came on I'd say you have a different problem.

Okay...I checked the codes and found P0300H/C. I check the plug wires and found the one on the drivers side closest to the firewall pretty much just sittin there. I finally got the plug wire seated correctly :smash: Man that's a PIA. Took it for a spin. Check the code again but this time I only get the P0300H. However the check engine light is still on. Will it clear on its own or do I have to do something else

You'll have to clear the code.

Sounds like you may also have the front O2's hooked up incorrectly if the car is not running properly.

To clear the light, you need to reset the code.

Go into the diagnostics again (hold options, press fuel 4 times. Then press any button other than E/M to get into the manual scrolling display. Then use the gages button to scroll each individual code. Once you get the code displayed, hold the reset button for a second, it should clear the code and check engine light should also go out.

Once you scroll thru all of the modules the car will go into manual diagnostics, when you see "PCM 1 code" press and hold the rest button and it will reset the code and put the light out.

Default Re: {DFW} Check Engine Light On (C5 StockSwap)

I put on FLP headers and the hi flow cats along with Borlas also. I drove it for few miles then let it sit for approx. 2 weeks. I started it up again and the check engine light came on as well. I accidentally erased the code but think it was 0106 or 0160, not sure. I assumed this was because of the new header install. Have not driven the car at all since erasing the code since it's been -10 degrees outside. Any ideas on the code listed above? By the way, thanks for starting this thread!

Just found the meaning of the 0160 code from another thread: bad O2 sensor.
