Can I trap 120MPH w/ stock longblock LS1? I need 2.8MPH more!!
After the trip to the track last weekend and running a best MPH of 117.19 I think I want to try for 120MPH on a stock factory longblock. No cam, rockers or head work. Car will have to be in street trim. So no slicks and skinnies, dropped cat-backs ETC.
Here are a few things IM going to do.
Swap my LS6 intake for the new LSx intake.. Can they prove 10rwhp?
Aftermarket T-body
Aftermarket Powerduct. IM still using the small pre-01 w/ my Ls6 MAF.
Electric waterpump.. People are seeing what, 5rwhp?
LS1 Edit tuning. I haven't done any performance tuning w/ it yet. Just used it to raise my rev limit and add a bit of fuel after it was detonating because of the Ls6 intake.
A few more things IM going to try.
Shifting at 5900 RPM only gave me a best MPH of mid to high 115's. On a hunch I tried shifting at 6100 and there was the extra MPH. That was as high as I could go w/ my limiter set at 6300. Next time out IM going to set it to 6500 and shift at 6300.. I think it might have a bit more MPH in it.
My front tires were at 29#s so I think I'll try 37-39 to reduce rolling resistance..
I think w/ some good air it has a 120 mph trap in it... :auto:

You might get close but seriously doubt whether you will see 120 trap speeds with the mods you list and without throwing a cam in that bad boy!!! Best of luck on trying to reach your goal with the mods you plan!!!

Gonna be really close. You're talking basically 30hp. You'll see 119 I bet, not sure about 120. Just be careful with raising your rev limiter, make sure you have better springs. Hell, I wouldn't even be running 6300rpm like you are now.

whats the deal on the tpis headers??????????
Its not a big deal for me seeing how I have a MIG welder at the ready, but I did have to scrape the high temp coating off to do it.. :mad

Also, go to ls1tech.com. Much much more hardcore tech guys over there. Last I checked, the fastest stock longblock f-body has gone 11.3 (forget the trap speed). You've got an FRC with a pretty nice weight advantage, so see what they're running.

that will be a great accomplishment, you'll probably be close, if so don't forget the gears.

3.90 gears could give you 2-3mph more trap speed. My friends Z06 went from 118+ to a best of 122+. :yesnod:

What is wrong with TPIS headers?
As for gears.. I'll do that as a last resort..I think I can trap 120mph w/ the stock 3.42s. IM crossing the line at 5000-5100rpm so there is plenty of room for improvement.

with 390s you will be running 80mph instead of 90 at 2000rpm gas milleage will not change much but 6th gear becomes a useful gear and your top end should increase as well--it will feel like an extra 50+rwhp
