Fairly easy job on 02's and older. They're located on the back of the tanks right in front of the rear wheels. They moved the pumps up on top when they switched to the new fuel system on 03 models.

Stupid question, but does that mean we have two pumps? Or is one 'the' fuel pump, and the other a transfer pump?
The whole assembly is pretty expensive too - is LPE still the only vendor which offers the pump swap-out service? (in other words, replace just the pump not all of the other supporting hardware).

The pump is only in the left hand tank, the right tank has a venturi syphon type pump that uses pressure feed from the right side to send some fuel over, it then draws back fuel into the left tank at a faster rate.
This constantly transfers fuel from right to left. After sitting natural forces push fuel back to the right side.
On Pre '02 vehicles it's quite tricky to get the pump out of the left tank, I have my methods, I have done probably between 50 and 100 of them.
Draining the fuel sucks, the right side is easy no matter what year.
A word of warning, DO NOT overtorque the fasteners, use the new ones that come in the kit.
The inserts in the tank are brass, and if you overtighten them you will get to replace the tank.
Follow the instructions to a T.
Oh on the newer ones it's easy to get the pump out of the left tank, maybe it changed in '00, I forget.
The new fuel system that started in mid '03 production has RPO FFS and requires removal of the transmission, rear diff and torque tube for ANY service. Party on!
