WHY do they make 1.8 or 1.85 roller rockers?
Is it for guys to waste their money trying to get a little more out of their car?
I don't get it...
I GOT STUCK>>>> :yesnod:
After EVERYONE told me NOT to get the SLP 1.85 roller rockers, that they wouldn't do a thing, that at BEST, MAYBE I'd get 10 HP & 10 TQ, old hard headed Ellis doesn't listen, thinks his car is better than everyone elses and will get 15-20 HP out of them, and drops $700 + another $500 for the install & dyno tuning after them, only to get 8 HP & 10 TQ out of them..
At the track ET did not change at ALL...
So now, I'm thinking I really want to get that 20-30 HP, so I can lose 1/10 in ET, so , like everyone told me, here comes the cam...
Of course I should have listened & done it in the first place..
But wait, there's MORE....
The SLP 1.85 rockers CAN'T be used with ANY AFTERMARKET CAM!
They can only be used with the stock cam... Great..
So now I have to try & find a baby or mild cam which will work with these rockers.. NOT... None out there.... :mad
Due to the dampening rate of the cams, you must use stock rockers.. :mad
So tell me knowledgable forum guys, WHY would ANYONE put in aftermarket 1.8 or 1.85 roller rockers? It just doesn't make sense....
I have seen a few cams from Comp & Crane which do say "works well with 1.8 rockers", but I am not sure...
Howvere, I AM sure that I am a jackass, & just totally WASTED $1200.00
:U
Yea, that's me getting sick to my stomach... uggggggggggg
Damn it! :mad
And yea, I'm winning alot of races & big events, but I want my car to "feel" strong, and be at a certain level, and its close, but just not there yet.
I really need that extra 1/10 in ET or 20-30 HP which would do it...
Just can't seem to get there...
I know the cam is the way, but it needs to be a baby or mild one...
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!:mad
Anyway, someone TELL me WHO does this mod (roller rockers) & WHY are they even made!!!?????
I just don't get it... Unless my car is a dog, and "should" have gotten 15-20 HP with them.....

Nothin wrong with what you did...it is a less expensive way to get the same effect as a mild cam would. But that is why you do not use them with an aggressive grind cam...it would multiply the lift & duration to much.
Have you gotten a good LS1 edit dyno tune since? You may squeeze a little more.

Any roller component is going to be smoother at higher engine speeds and the components are generally stronger and more reliable. They are, by nature, also quieter.
I would use parts like that for reliability and strength if I were doing, say, a stock disp. setup with better valvetrain parts and I wanted to add either nitrous or possibly the Magnuson. The extra load and speed that the roller rockers can take along with better breathing (due to the higher lift) for my power adders would add a lot to the configuration.
I'll probably be adding stock-ratio roller rockers to my head/cam setup this spring for improved smoothness, quietness and reliability.

Would it be great if Patches answer was true of SLP Rockers :D
Its not, SLP rockers are designed exactly as stock, no reduced noise, friction or increased reliability.
I have Yella Terra 1.7 rockers with my aftermarket cam.

Yea, thats my point...
WHY are they made, WHO gets them, FOR WHAT gain?
Don't tell me just for "strength" & "quietness"............ :cuss :nono:

True, 66, seeing as how they are based on the stockers and even built by the OEM manufacturer. I was speaking more to the app. of a true roller. I wasn't aware SLP's were just a 1.85 ratio version of the stockers.
I certainly wouldn't install those but a true roller setup like the YT's or possibly the upcoming adj. Patriot's.

Re: WHY do they make 1.8 or 1.85 roller rockers? (Patches)
I have written to SLP, telling them how dissatisfied I am with the 8 HP & 10 TQ dyno gain I received, as well as no difference in ET or MPH in 20 runs at the track.
Now even THEIR own cams will not work with their 1.85 roller rockers.
They don't tell you that. They tell you not to use stock springs etc, but no mention about not being able to ever add another cam with these rockers.
I would think they should say "ONLY FOR USE WITH STOCK CAM".
They tout their products etc, tell you what works & what doesn't, but nothing is mentioned about not being able to use a different cam once these are installed.
Bottom line:
$1200 spent
8 HP 10 TQ dyno gain
ZERO SOTP or real world ET or MPH gain at all...

Terry...
I have made a post asking about the 01 & 02 Z06 cams...
Do you know if they will work with 1.85 roller rockers?
If not, I can keep the SLP springs which are Z06 springs, the titanium retainers & keepers & use the stock rockers.
But want to know for sure, 100% positive before doing anything & spending more $$.

The SLP 1.85's work perfectly with the 03 Z06 cam. A bud got over 360 RWHP with the cam and rockers ( 2000 Camaro, LS6 intake A4 Untuned)

El, just bolt on a set of the AFR 205cc CNC'd heads when they come out in a few months. I feel these heads will get excellent power gains with just a stock cam, so the extra lift and duration from your 1.85s would definitely help out. I bet they would get you more than an 8hp gain then!

Re: WHY do they make 1.8 or 1.85 roller rockers? (MattG)
I agree with Matt G! A local tuner here in Chicago just got 424 rwhp out of his 03 Z06 going with these roller rockers, aftermarket LS6 heads and bolt ons! That's approx 64 to 70rwhp over a stock Z06 and maintaining the stock LS6 cam with all of its stock idling and drivability charteristics, etc.! Throw on the new LS6 type stage II Patriot heads for 1750.00 (no core charge) and if you still want more put in a LS6 cam which should work fine!
